Re: March Madness
The Sweet 16 currently consists of an 11 seed, a 10, 9, 6, 5 and a 3. So five upsets and one seeded team. The NCAA Committee's work has been decimated.
Now, it's Jimmer time.

Whoa, wait a minute here.... are you and Wizz already admitting that neither of you will be in Vegas to deliver in person?
(Not that I would look the "gift horses" in the mouth)...

I think the official line is 3.5...

No, I just don't want to be the one getting my bag seized by Homeland Security for being loaded with lowest common denominator of all beers on the face of the earth...

Re: March Madness
Yeah, K-State ruined the party next weekend in Utah. Jimmer was shut down by the bigger, faster Wildcat athletes.
Speaking of which, it is good to be a Wildcat tonight! K-State goes to SLC, and KU goes home as the biggest tourney #1 seed flame-out in years. Party in Manhattan .

Haha I guess I just haven't been able to commit to a full 12 pack... I guess I could give the leftover to my dad for slug bait...

Re: March Madness
Zags not looking good at the half. I don't know who to root for. On one hand, I want the WCC to have a good showing in the tournament. On the other hand, I need Syracuse to win or my bracket goes from bad to worse. On yet another hand, I find it hard to root for Gonzaga no matter what.

That was an embarrassment... What is it with Matt Bouldin and the complete inability to rise to the occasion?

BTW, thank you Terrapins and Spartans for ending the streak of anti-climactic finishes with a pretty incredible final 1:30 (and even better last 10 seconds)

Re: March Madness
Four mid-majors have made it to the Sweet 16, not bad for the little guys. Butler, Northern Iowa, St. Mary's, and Cornell. 5, 9, 10 and 12 seeds. Xavier has a chance to make it, too, as a 6 seed.

Re: March Madness
Four or five out of the second weekend is a great year for mid-majors.
PS--I never have a problem rooting against Gonzaga.

Re: March Madness
Yeah... Haha I have a harder time handling them winning and resigning that it's for the good of the conference. But I was begrudgingly pulling for them in hopes of having 2 WCC squads in the 16... I feel much better now that I don't have to force myself through that again....

Re: March Madness
I went from having a hard time rooting for Gonzaga, to feeling sorry for them. I know it's hard to believe, but it was so painful to watch I actually wanted to see them make a run at the end to make it close.
On another note, I ran the scenario generator again. It is still possible for me to go from 21st after two rounds to 1st. I need pretty much every game to go my way though. There are still lots of people in the running for the bucket of beers.

I ran that too. I can only get second! Not bad for picking KU to win it I guess. Really cool feature though.

I can get 5th.... YEAH!!!
Haha, as far as the sympathy thing, I had some welling and then I saw Sacre trying to talk smack after blocking someone while still 25 points down. I mean really Robert?

Re: March Madness
Here is the conference performance for the Sweet 16:
Big East - 2 teams, WVU and Syracuse, out of 8.
Big 12 - 2 teams, Baylor and K-St, out of 7.
SEC - 2 teams, Kentucky and Tenn, out of 4.
Big 10 - 3 teams, Ohio St, Purdue, Mich St, 3 out of 5.
Pac 10 - 1 team, UW, out of 2.
ACC - 1 team, Duke, out of 6.
Mid-majors - 5 teams, Xavier, Butler, Northern Iowa, St Mary's and Cornell
9 of the 16 teams got in via their conference's automatic bid. Only Kansas from the Big 12 was ejected as a power conference auto bid. Xavier is the only mid-major not getting in via auto bid. That implies that teams entering the tourney on a winning streak did better than most.
The Big 10 has had the best tourney of the power conferences, getting 60% of their entries through two rounds. The SEC has also done well, as has the Pac 10, considering the seeds it got. The ACC has done the worst, followed by the Big East and the Big 12. East coast basketball = overrated!
33 mid-majors (or low-majors) started the tourney, so the 5 remaining is not so great percentage wise, but considering how many were double digit seeds (or play-in), I think it is a respectable number.

Re: March Madness
The unfortunate fact is the big schools bring in more money for the tournament. Yes, it is more enjoyable to watch George Mason's run but anytime a school like WVU, Kentucky, UW, OSU, etc. make it to the Final Four they have tens of thousands of fans purchasing apparel or tickets to the games. It sucks but it is all about the money. I would rather see a World Series between the Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers but that won’t make the league as much money as NY Yankees vs. well anyone. God I hate the Yankees almost as much as that school up north.
