I mean it's cute for the rivalry and all, but I don't see how it sells seats in, um, Portland...

You don't think some angry Sounders fans will show up in Portland?

Haha, for 1 game a year? (which they would have even without the billboard...)

I'm just jealous I don't have family money to spend on angsty billboards that serve no real greater purpose. (If I did, I would have put one up in Spokane YEARS ago...)

Well, it is MP's money, which he can spend however he wants (and MP's team, and MP's crest, etc. etc.)...as he so succinctly told us back in June.

Hahaha, why does this reek ever so slightly of Glazer? (It's more than one who puts frosting on donuts...)

I think it is a darn fine conversation starter for the uninitiated. Particularly the vast majority of Sounders' [ahem] fan base who are largely unaware that the club existed before 2009.

This seems to me to be a fairly inexpensive way to raise the profile of the rivalry and our entry into MLS. This will garner at least local media attention; I wouldn't be surprised to see a small bit of national spotlight as well. It will at least go viral in the environs of the interwebs which follow the American soccer scene. I'm betting most other supporters groups wish that their club management had half of the chutzpah to pull this off.

Hahaha, and yet they didn't have the chutzpah to use their primary logo on the billboard?

Well, it made the Sounders-RSL telecast, so the nation has seen it. Our FO was going for attention and now they've gotten it.

Well, "nation" is a relative term on the opening night of pointyball... But that aside, time to hang a mission accomplished banner I guess?

Overheard in the Blue half of Manchester:

U-N-I-T-E-D,
That spells frakkin' debt to me!
With a knick knack paddy whack
Give the dog a bone,
The Glazers' bank is on the phone! Twisted Evil

Because looking at Top 10 lists of the world's best players and trying to buy all of them is a very responsible transfer policy. Rolling Eyes
