That's what I get for cutting-and-pasting from my previous posts I guess. Now let's hope the 2nd half lives up to my billing eh?

Re: BYU Women's Soccer
final 1-1
BYU had tons of chances and didn't convert.
I gotta say, the BYU announcers are kinda whiney. They called for PK's on two tackles where defenders got balls.
The first was outside the box anyway, and the ball did get the defender's right thigh after a shoulder to shoulder challenge, where the attacker got no ball at all.
The second was a tangle between two players who had stepped trough each other's legs. the defender did touch ball kicking through Cassidy Shumway's legs , and Shumway looked liked she embellished to get the call instead of trying for the ball.
no ref is going to decide the game for you under those circumstances.

Re: BYU Women's Soccer
Agreed. You can't blame it on the ref when you have, what, 28 shots on goal? The no-calls are tough because both probably would have been called if they were outside of the box. The first no-call (on Payne) was particularly tough to swallow since she had broken free, the challenge came from behind, and, if the defender got the ball, it was well after the contact (and likely a result of knocking Payne off the ball).
I think it should have been called, but outside the box. Oh well though. It was fun watching 28 shots (4 off posts). It seems like BYU has some good one-on-one players and creators but there doesn't seem to be a lot of teamwork. Nearly all opportunities come from our forwards winning 50/50 balls in the corners and then firing it across the box. I haven't watched a lot of college soccer (other than BYU), but I miss seeing possession and development, working the ball back and forth, and building attacks from the midfield. Will I get to see that at Portland games?

we sure hope you will although UPs' outside defenders will push up a lot too.
They play USD tomorrow night on FSN and Santa Clara on Sunday on ESPNU
Judge for yourself.

Re: BYU Women's Soccer
tyscat, welcome to this board an the wcc! I personally am very excited to have your program in our conference starting next year as BYU has been historically a very good soccer program!
My perception is that U of P has mainly recruited OR, WA, CA until the last 5 years of so when we started getting recruits fom UT, CO, AZ. Then came the gals from NY, GA, TX. Now that we have reached into IL is just a testament to the quality of this program!
Again. I am personally really excited to have BYU join our conference, it can only benefit us all!

Re: BYU Women's Soccer
Ditto! I've been wondering about the WCC in women's soccer with BYU, plus future possible additions of Denver and Seattle.

I just realized that tonight's game is on FSC (Fox Soccer Channel), not FSN.

Re: BYU Women's Soccer
Caught some of the Portland games. Good soccer. Not quite what I expected but still some of the better amateur soccer I've seen.
BYU @ Santa Clara tonight. I wish it was on TV. Go Cougs.
(I guess I should probably head over to Santa Clara's board at some point).

http://www.cougarboard.com is the best BYU forum. But you're going to get mostly football and basketball talk. Not a lot of soccer talk anywhere (that I know of). You can filter the messages by category (College Soccer), which helps some.
