Whew! If last year is any indication at all, this is going to be a rough one. A win or a loss by 10 points or less would be encouraging in my opinion. UW is a pretty unanimous pick to win the Pac-10. They've added a pretty exceptional shot-blocking center, and their guard play at home is pretty stellar. They're probably the highest scoring team we've faced, and the best competition since the Kentucky game.

I'm sure they still remember losing to us two seasons ago. All that I know is I'm more likely to attend the Seattle U game in February than this one...

Yeah, these are the games when I wish we would run a few more screen and rolls to get Stohl open, but, I'm coming to the conclusion that those plays really aren't a big part of Rev's system. We seem to run more curl plays to the basket, back door baseline plays for the big men, and quick inside-outside passes to Stohl, Nem, or other shooters.

For me this game is: basketball IQ vs. athleticism. I'm impressed with our ability to run the 2-3 zone more effectively at home or on the road this year, and I hope that continues. Since Washington has the players to break down the zone, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rev shorten up the rotation once again to keep our best defenders on the floor....

-----------------------------------------------------

NOTES from the St. Louis game: Stohl moved into fourth place in WCC history for career three-pointers made (275) and trails Gonzaga’s Richie Frahm (1997-00, 280) by five for third place … Mitrovic reached double figures for the fourth straight game and sixth time this season … Portland has outrebounded six of eight opponents this season … this marks the third time this year the Pilots shot above .500 as a team.

I can't wait for Stohl to pass up Frahm!

Realistically this is going to be a very difficult road game, by far this is probably the most defensively polished team we are going to see (Rev's tweet this morning agrees with that sentiment). They aren't nearly as long in the back court as Kentucky, but a lot more disciplined (relatively speaking). UW and UP are almost identical in shooting from distance, and they have some scoring bigs as well. UP needs to do its best to keep the tempo slower and not give the team easy buckets (i.e. take care of the ball), UW can score QUICKLY from all over the court and thrives on forcing mistakes.

While I'd love to see a win obviously, I'd be happy with the guys just going out and competing (Not just sitting there mesmerized by the school name on the front of the jersey like they did with UK) and keeping the game competitive.

46-31 UW over Portland at the half... At one point we cut the lead to 4 points, and then they took off on a run.

Much better at the beginning of the game than the Kentucky or WSU games. Hopefully we can make a game of it in the second half.

UW getting open 3 shots, and hitting most of them. UP not getting open shots, and not hitting what we take. Not a recipe for success.

68-52--UW is still ahead. For a moment there we cut it to a 12 point lead, but, we can't seem to defend them very well at all. Sad

A little run! We're within 8: 68-60.

Ouch! As quickly as we got back into it, they pulled ahead again: 77-62. Plus, they're in the bonus.

94-72 loss. Ouch. Looking on the bright side, Sikma continues to be remarkably consistent no matter who the competition is: 14 pts and 16 rebounds...

UP Recap and Box Score:

No. 22 Washington Snaps Portland Win Streak

SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Portland Pilots used a big second half to pull with six points late, but the No. 22 Washington Huskies came away with a 94-72 loss Monday night before 9,425 fans at Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Trailing by 15 at the half Portland used a 10-0 run to pull within 68-62 with 8:25 remaining, but Washington’s exceptional perimeter shooting proved to be too much.

Senior forward Luke Sikma had a big homecoming for the Pilots (7-3). The Bellevue, Wash. native finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Junior guard Nemanja Mitrovic added 15 points, while senior guard Jared Stohl added 12. Freshman point guard Tim Douglas had his best game of the season, finishing with 12 points and three assists before fouling out.

Washington (6-2) entered the game leading the nation in three-point shooting at 46 percent. They lived up to the billing by going 13-for-23 from beyond the arc (.567). Portland, meanwhile, entered No. 4 nationally in three-point percentage but finished just 8-for-25 from three-point range (.320). The Huskies entered the game leading the nation in scoring average (95.7) and had scored 100 or more points in four games.

Portland used a 10-0 run to cut the Husky lead to 68-62 with 8:25 remaining. Consecutive three-pointers by Mitrovic and two layups by Sikma pulled the Pilots within six. Washington answered with yet another three-pointer, this time by Scott Suggs to make it 71-62 with 8:10 left. That sparked an 11-0 run to push the margin to 17 points and the Pilots would never get it back down to single digits.

Justin Holiday and Isaiah Thomas paced the Huskies with 20 points each, while Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Suggs added 15 and 13, respectively.

Washington shot 59 percent from the field in the first half and took their largest lead of the period on a layup by Thomas 10 seconds before the halftime buzzer.

Washington extended their non-conference home winning streak to 25 games, while the Pilots dropped their first road game of the season and fall to 6-47 all-time against ranked opponents. The Huskies also improved to 8-0 all-time against Portland at home and 13-2 overall against the Pilots.

Portland will return home before traveling to Denver for a Saturday, Dec. 11 matchup with the Denver Pioneers. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. (PST) and the game will be televised live on FSN Rocky Mountain as well as on the radio at 800 AM (KPDQ).
