Haha - I think he could be more intimidating at the poker table than Phil Ivey.
Great interview. Canzano asked him the job question. It does seem that he truly enjoys UP and Portland. I just hope we can do whatever possible to keep him around. His "fit" for UP is just so dang perfect.....and he's a decent basketball coach to boot!!

Re: Rev and Canzano , poker and beer
He also was mentioned as a candidate at two other schools as recently as last year. Interviewed at Boise State and perhaps with if not at Cal Irvine: blessing that no Pac-12 school has yet expressed real interest. I just hope that Rev is here for a few more years . . .the program is in a better place than it has been for what seems like a generation.
I agree with Canzano's assessment that Rev is one hell of a coach . . .I fear the demand for him may eventually catch up to the assessment.
I will enjoy it while the gettin is good.
Go Pilots.

Re: Rev and Canzano , poker and beer
I think that perhaps UP could keep him for the long haul. Like he said in the interview, he's been around long enough to know the grass isn't always greener on the other side. He admits that loves UP and living in portland, if we can support him in his endeavor to compete for championships at UP, then why not?
Mayhaps I'm being optimistic, but he will clearly think through a decision to leave completely, and being successful at UP may not be a bad thing for the guy. It's kind of like my wife. She could clearly have married a better looking, smarter fellow than I, but what the hay, I'm not such a bad fellow, why not marry me??!!

Who could disagree with your wife's logic? Particularly if it explains why Rev will be here at least another five years.

So what you're saying is that we need to be on our best behavior for a year or so and convince him that that we are better than we really are. Then, once we get him to sign that long term contact, we can go back to being our fat, lazy, drunk selves.
We should be able to pull that off.

Ugh, we're going to have to switch to Michelob Ultra aren't we? (This is where R54 mocks me for ordering a Ruby at Kennedy School...)

It's true, I go out to grab a freaking BEER with this guy, and he orders a Ruby!! I didn't say anything when it happened, I mean, I'm a nice guy. He SAYS he meant to order the Rubinator.....Me thinks he just can't handle a real beer.

Hahaha, it was humorous to watch you (and your wife for that matter) holding back comments, but you judged with your eyes....

Re: Rev and Canzano , poker and beer
I'm not going to lie, i just had a terrible moment. It's like that moment when you see the radio DJ and it turns out to be a fat, older man. As a younger UP alum, I looked up to your stories about "the good old days in Purple Pride" and then i find out you ordered a RUBY!? I expected so much more.

Re: Rev and Canzano , poker and beer
I did not know that, I usually get hammerhead. I kind of panicked and thats the first beer that came out (Even as the waitress walked away, I kind of shook my head in disbelief).
And to be perfectly honest, the night before I had WAY too many IPA and vodka soda's so I wasn't sure I could handle my usual fare. That said, it was a moment of weakness and pp13, I'm sorry for crushing your dreams... But if it helps, I look nothing like a sports radio host or a radio DJ.

Re: Rev and Canzano , poker and beer
I mentioned if because after all that talk of the Ruby, I figured you were looking for a Ladies beer that didn't sound like one.
NB only has an ABV or around 3.6%-4.6%

Should we share this post with Mrs. Geezer?!
And yet another thread is hijacked by beer...

I thought the subject was Poker.
And mrs Geezer could put you guys under the table, from what I'm reading.

Re: Rev and Canzano , poker and beer
I've seen Mr. and Mrs. R54 exchange looks like that before...usually has something to do with questioning a man's manliness or questioning a man's sobriety. I'm certain in my case the latter usually applies.

A Ruby ordering apologist. We could have a whole group of posts about that topic...
What beer would you not be caught dead ordering?
Several come to mind:
Pabst Blue Ribbon--Too hipster.
Ruby--for the date, not me...
Bud Light--Puke...

Re: Rev and Canzano , poker and beer
Bud light & clamato(comes in a can)
About every decade I have a red beer, but this just sounds awful.
Seven-Eleven Game Day light
I need something stronger to wash down the breakfast brat
Michelob ultra pomegranate raspberry
Nothing more need be said
MGD 64
I get enough of it from my pals on the heating grates
Sam Adams cranberry Lambic
It's not thanksgiving, and when it is, I just put a teaspoon of the jellied stuff in my Pliny.
