If this happens, it would be an interesting development...and a little disappointing for those of us who hoped SU would eventually join the WCC. The fact that they are a part of the conversation to join a conference should open some eyes...

That's not really new news. It doesn't cost much to go into or leave the WAC, so it might just be a holding place to be. They have a much better chance of getting tournament slots as part of a conference than as an Indy.

Yeah it makes a ton of sense for them, especially with scheduling and everything... But the WAC is a really scattered conference, teams in Texas, Louisiana (??), Utah State is probably the feature program. I mean they have a great student section but.... Seems like much more of a placeholder, and if the WCC came knocking both schools would still very much answer the door.
Interesting that both DU and SU could be there in the near future though.

Seattle, Denver will join WAC
It's official.
Seattle and Denver have received their invitations to the WAC as non-football members starting in 2012.
Utah Valley University was not given an invite.

The Seattle times adds that the WAC is considering moving its Basketball tournament from Las Vegas ( didn't they just move it to there?) to the Key Arena.

The article also mentioned moving the women's soccer tourney to the Seattle campus.

...And the Seattle U. Announcement.
http://www.goseattleu.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=205159883&DB_OEM_ID=18200
Men's soccer and men's swimming, which aren't WAC sports, will remain in the Mountain Pacific Sports federation, and women's golf, currently an associate in the WCC will be here this year but not next.

Re: Seattle U. awaits a potential invitation to join the WAC.
Is there an award for the school that can belong to the most conferences simultaneously?

Haha!
BYU and Denver might be neck and neck on that one.
Denver is in separate conferences for Lacrosse, ice hockey, now most other sports, although I think a couple stay in the Sun Belt...
BYU will be a WCC, WAC, Indy, and Professional development league ( men's soccer)
Somewhere in there, I think the GWAC is also involved.
So confusing...

Not mentioned in those reports is that the WAC also added Texas-San Antonio and Texas State to the conference.

Well, I guess between UTEP (Texas Western) and Seattle U, the WAC now has an artificially enhanced championship basketball legacy??

Re: Seattle U. awaits a potential invitation to join the WAC.
Here we go again….
Denver is leaving the WAC for the Summit League after just one year, and will be replaced by now D-2 Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
That leaves our friends at Seattle U. with Cal State Bakersfield, Idaho, New Mexico St, and Utah Valley.
If BYU were to leave the WCC, the league has to snag Seattle U……a seemingly perfect fit (but who knows what goes on behind the scenes).

Well as long as all the reasons for not signing up the Chieftai, er I mean Redbirds, for the conference have been resolved since the last time SU wanted to be part of the league....
That said, a trip to Seattle HAS to be more appealing than Stockton.

Yep, that's a no brainer, plus Seattle is just plain easier to get to for most anyone.DaTruRochin wrote:

Maybe a bit of bad rap on Stockton, however......it's got some rich history and charm, but face it, that's not what any of us looked for as college kids.
Wabash is on the list? Seriously? Everyone loves Wabash! It's a great little school closer to Indianapolis than Chicago...good partying there, and a great atmosphere at their football games.
Oh, sorry, this was about college towns....yea, I imagine Crawfordsville doesn't have a great deal going on.
