Oregon State-Portland, Aug. 27
Pilots get out of town with a 2-1 win after heavy pressure most of the last half hour.
Connor Barbaree curled in a shot from outside the area early on. Wonderfully taken goal. In the second half OSU made a huge mistake on a backpass, keeper completely fanned on it, and Nielsen tapped in. OSU got one back with 20 to go when Seymore, a freshman striker, collected a ball at the top of the area, turned, and put it inside the near post. Pilots held on as plenty of OSU's shots went just wide or high.
Oregon State had some quality guys. Roberto Farfan, Emery Welshman, and Will Seymore all were good attacking threats. Colin Mitchell did some good work out wide.
For the Pilots Justin Baarts had some terrific saves in goal. Kawulok and Tonkel were solid in back. Nielsen and Barbaree were good up front. Iwasaki had a few good moments too.
Next weekend is your only chance to see the boys at home until October.

I think the boys have a chance this year to do some good things, they have a lot of veteran players in key positions. I think that their style has been a work in progress over the last few years, but I expect them to really "get it" this year. Didn't see the game yesterday though, how did they play? Will be nice to see them play next weekend before the go on their annual Rodeo Road Trip

They had some good stretches but OSU is a physical team that was good at shutting down the midfield. Defense was okay but OSU had some good individual players who were able to get by defenders. Justin did some good work in goal.

Didn't sound like they were great, but I think I would take a W on the road in the first game of the season any day. Plus, they are playing with Evans and Carrillo
