Texas upsets A&M 3-2
yeowch! Texas beat Texas A&M for the second time in a week, this time at A&M.
so much for RPI, Albyn Jones, and any other predictor out there. Just goes to show you have to actually show up and play.
A&M's coach blamed the weather. I think they tightened up and didn't play. I caught a little of it on the web before the Ducks game, and they didn't look good. Though they had 10 shots in the first half, most weren't great chances, and the only A&M score was an own goal.
A cautionary note, Albyn gives A&M almost the same odds we have against Colorado.
Another thing surprised me. Though it's a big tournament game against their in-state rival, A&M managed to turn out only 2438 fans.
Maybe it was the T-storm, maybe it's because they had to pay to get in...

I noticed the upset, too. Very interesting.
Honestly, I think the Pilots are going to be fine tomorrow against Colorado. The fans worry a lot more than the team does. I really get the impression this Portland team doesn't care where they play or whom they play. They expect to beat anyone, anywhere, anytime. At least that's the impression I've had since about mid-October.
Bad stuff can always happen...it's sports. But, all that early season adversity really helps at this point.

Right on, pms268! For about the past month they have seemed very relaxed and confident at practice. I swear Sophie looks like she has perma-grin on her face! (Reminds me of a little kid opening her presents on Christmas.) The chemistry on this team, in public anyway, is so loose and relaxed, you'd think they already had won the title!
pms268 is right when he talks about this team overcoming adversity. (All the injuries to key players; two other key players missing the first half of the season due to World Cup duties.) However, when Steph came back, and Sophie moved up top against Oregon, there was a definite feeling that things had changed.
Stephanie just seemed to calm everyone down. Wozzie obviously was inspired and elevated her game to world-class status. Garrett is a terrific coach and he seems to have been busy constantly talking to his charges about dotting all the "I's" and crossing all the "T's".
And the seniors, already a part of Pilots soccer lore due to their involvement with the 2005 juggernaut that conquered the nation, just seem to have a collective look of "nothing, absolutely nothing, is going to stop us from reaching our goal".

I'm hoping I can catch bits and pieces of the game from the Chiles Center...gotta play at the Women's Basketball game!

good luck with that, there is no cable at the childs center, only satellite. Comcast hasn't managed to sign on with any satellite companies for any of their sports feeds, including the Blazers.

Well damn. I was sure they'd have it in the HoF room so I could at least sneak a score update. The good news is I have a phone with Wi-Fi and a data plan so I can either get on the UP network or just go the phone data route to get updates.
Thing is, I know we have Comcast on campus - it's what feeds all of the halls. Who knows, maybe the office formerly known as OCIO never put in a cable drop.
