Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
Wow, thanks IronLions, I just got it from Hoopniks via Northstarball. It looks like the coaches will be lighting up cigars for this get. Just what we needed.

A ( semi ) random article on a game From the ben Davidson in the SacBee:Bryce (son of former NBA player Harold Pressley) is an outstanding player who plays both sides of the floor. Bryce has a shooting range that does not quit, plus he is a great ball handler and sees the floor -- he has a great passing ability. Bryce is also a great defender and rebounder who uses his athleticism well. Bryce has been receiving a lot of interest from colleges.

Except he went to the wrong Catholic high school in Sacramento. I hate the marauders more than I hate the zags! I'm willing to look past this if the dude doesn't turn the ball over every other possession.

Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
He seems like a good get for us. Joe Davidson, a beat writer in Sacramento that covers Pressley's team wrote this about him
saying,
Hopefully, he's right in his assessment because the ESPN scouting report only gave him a 74 (ESPN Evaluation). Does anyone have an ESPN Insider account to see what else they have to say about him?

Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
Ask and you shall receive:
Strengths:
Bryce is a well-schooled wing who is on-balance while attacking the rim and he utilizes the shot-fake very well to get by his opponent. His jump shot has somewhat of a long release, but his shot is smooth. He has a terrific court demeanor and his IQ for the game is high.
Weaknesses:
Pressley is one of those in-between prospects with no real position. His frame is decent, but he has limited quickness and bounce.
Bottom Line:
Pressley, who is the son of former Villanova standout Harold Pressley, has a fairly tight game of his own. He isn't overly explosive, but due to his skills and savvy, he should be able to play at some level of Division I.

Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
I don't have any more information on this kid than what has been posted, but i just get the gut feeling that could be an impact player in a couple of years maybe. Plus, if the evaluation about his range is accurate this could be a big reason we went out and offered a scholarship.
Curious if he was offered a scholarship before Tim decided to transfer or if he only received it after the news.

nice, but we better find a starting quality point guard. Hint...it can't be Rodgers or Carr.

Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
He sounds like a nice get, and he certainly has the genetic basketball pedigree. There are some conflicting evaluations of him in terms of how good he is, so we'll just need to wait and see.
It also sounds like, and looks like from what I can tell in the video, that he may be more of a SG, than a PG. Do we have any schollies left to offer for a true PG, or is this it for this recruiting cycle (unless someone leaves) ? Anybody know?

Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
Thanks double D. So if we have one left, I would assume that someone who can come in and hit the ground running at PG is still our biggest need?

Yeah, more like like things aren't working out for him as an owner. With that siad, I'm pretty sure he could still put up 60+ a game on every team in the WCC.

Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
Why not recruit Mohammad Akkari. The guy can hit the three, and with the right amount of cover up we might get the NCAA to overlook his pro career.

Re: Bryce Pressley commits to Portland
From the Sacramento Bee (April 12):
(That's Bryce on the left, my newest avatar.)
Bee All-Metro guard Bryce Pressley of Jesuit has accepted a scholarship to the University of Portland. He helped lead the Marauders to the NorCal Division I finals as a combo guard who could score inside, outside, above the rim and defend. In one playoff game, Pressley had 22 points, nine rebounds and nine blocked shots.
Pressley had received recruiting interest from across the country, including Villanova, where his father Harold played before becoming a first-round pick with the Kings and teaching his son the game.
Pressley said he has mixed feelings about going to Portland. He is thrilled at the opportunity but added, "it's mixed feelings because it's hard to know that my high school career is over."
