Re: Olympics
I agree with not agreeing about the Bud Light pick. Megan was absolutely dominant in the second half during the period when the US scored its two goals.
In the interview they did with her that they played part of during the broadcast, did anyone catch the plug for the Pilots coaches?

Re: Olympics
No, I missed that. But there were several mentions of Sinclair and Schmidt playing for the Pilots.
Didn't even mention Portland State or aviation.
Progress.

If Abby scores she's gonna get WOTM, just like Donovan gets MOTM whenever he does.

Chastaine talked about the freedom Megan had from the coaches to try things as a Pilot player in about the 61st minute (when Renard went down as was being attended.)

Canada did well also.
Christine's two goals put her in a tie with Abby for #2 all time.
Then Abby got one.

Here is an interview from the US Soccer site with Megan recorded after the Columbia game. There are some short interviews with Lloyd, Rampone and Wambach before they get to Megan. She is a good interview.

Re: Olympics
It seems likely if Canada and Sweden tie ( both teams will go on, and I'm not sure how they determine the higher seed)
If Canada wins, I think it will be the following round we might play them.
But every site I look at has a different take on how the seeding works and I'm a little too lazy to check the tournament documents.
We will have to beat 2 or 3 top 10 teams in any case.

The Bracket
the rest of the tournament is officially set.
The USA beat Korea and gets NZ, which beat Cameroon and went through for the first time ever.
Japan played for a tactical tie (4 starters) to avoid the USA and France next round, but they still get Brasil , then France in the semi.
Canada went trough by tying Sweden, and draws GBR, they get the USA/ NZ winner.
Sweden gets France (beat Colombia 1-0) with the tie, they get the winner of Japan/Brasil.
So UP has all three soccer Olympians still in the mix for medals!

Re: Olympics
Now that the Badminton players have been banned for playing poorly to get a more favorable seed in the next round, can we expect the same thing to happen to the soccer teams that did the same thing?

Re: Olympics
In the case of the banned Chinese team, the goal was for the two Chinese teams to play for a Gold and Silver, instead of Gold and Bronze by not meeting in he semis.
Sebastian Coe admitted
" who would want to sit through that?"
Apparently not the fans who paid $100 per ticket. They jeered through the matches.
The Olympic committee says there will be no refunds.

Re: Olympics
It was a good game. The USA won with the final score being USA 2:0 New Zealand.
There was an interesting moment in the 73rd minute where Alex Morgan's knee collided with the NZL goalkeeper's forehead. They were both okay, but it was a scary sight to see.
The second USA goal was scored by Sidney LeRoux (an ex-Canadian, I'm sure you all could explain it better) who put the ball directly between the keeper's legs.
We move on to the semi-finals to face either Team Great Britain (that is strange to say in relation to football) or our former Pilots in Canada.

Due to my travels, this was the first game I was able to watch "live" on the Telly........tell me, have all the games been televised with TV cameras located in outer space?
I've LEGALLY flown over sporting events closer than those cameras appeared to be located.

Good run for GB to get to the quarter-finals; a shot in the arm for women's soccer in the UK.
