Yup, Florida Gulf Coast's Christian Carlyle transfers to SCU. Although graduating, he could get two extra years due medical hardship waivers, and be a 5th year junior.DoubleDipper wrote:I have no doubt Coach Herb Sendek will find really good transfers to replace them, but it's still a big loss, IMO.

Great move for Trey Wertz, he ended up at Notre Dame.DoubleDipper wrote:SCU's top scorer, Josip Vrankic is expected to return for his senior season, but the Broncos or losing the exciting Tahj Eaddy who's transferring to USC, and second leading scorer sophomore guard, Trey Wertz, who's name is in the transfer portal..
He'll have to sit a year, but he'll have two to play.

SCU playing WSU in Pullman. Only 23 points in first half, they are not hitting their shots like normal.

Re: SCU Notes
Wow.
In the second half they started chucking up 3’s to try and get back into it and so far are 1-12 from distance.
Not much better overall at 33%
And no trips to the line so far this half with 4 to go

Re: SCU Notes
Some fodder for haters of the WCC. SCU normally scores 78 ppg, only 50 against WSU. Hitting almost 39% of 3Ps on the season, they hit 13% tonight. Justice 0-5, Williams 1-5, Pipes 1-7. And they were open shots, too.
Wish they'd shot like that in Las Vegas.

Keshawn Justice returns for a 5th year for the Broncos. He's already appeared in 111 games there. Averaged 13.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg this year.

Did you notice that Williams was playing on the Johnson team, as in former Pilots assistant Mitch Johnson, now a Spurs assistant?up7587 wrote:According to this article, https://www.sbnation.com/nba-draft-combine-2022-winners-losers, Jalen Williams has moved himself to the first round and potentially a lottery pick position.
Mitch was an assistant for just one year on The Bluff, 2015-16, Rev's final year coaching at UP.
That was Mitch in the being interviewed in the videos while Williams was raising his draft status.

Missed that. When Rev hired him I thought he was too young and lacked experience. Guess Rev saw his potential.

There's been discussion on the GU board about Timme losing money by going to the NBA as a 2nd or 3rd round pick rather than collecting all the NIL money he could get as the best college player.

Crazy that he played one year at Illinois, where he appeared in about half the games, played 4.3 mpg, and scored 1.4 ppg. His 3P% there was 23.1%, then he shot 43.8% this year. I can't imagine SCU expected him to be the player he became.

Jaden Bediako played four years for the Broncos before transferring. He is a starter at Seton Hall currently playing in the NIT championship game,

Re: SCU Notes
Bediako started, played 20 minutes and didn't score, but IMO it was one of the better games of the season as Seton Hall defeated Indiana St., 79-77.up7587 wrote:Jaden Bediako played four years for the Broncos before transferring. Although the game was not always played at the highest level, it was a game that was hard fought and physical with the refs refraining from blowing their whistles at the rough fouls, doing so only when it was the ticky-tacky variety.
Appropriately enough for the rough and tumble game, it was played in the rough and tumble 9,200 seat Hinkle Field House in Indianapolis, location of the 1986 film Hoosiers.

Re: SCU Notes
From Le Mans, France, Adama-Alpha Bal played two seasons at Arizona before transferring to SCU for the 2023-24 season, and he now has declared himself for the NBA draft while maintaining his eligibility (I think that still means he has not hired and agent, but who knows anymore) to return to SCU.
During his year as a starting Bronco, the 6-7/190 Bal led the team in scoring (14.4), free throw percentage (.821), and average minutes played (31.1).
In his two games against UP (a win and a loss) he scored 15 and 20 points. During those same two games T-Rob scored 34 and 32 points.
At 6-6/235, T-Rob's season averages were 35.6 minutes per game, .811 free throw percentage, and 16.9 points per game.
Just saying...

Re: SCU Notes
This is HUGE for Santa Clara, Carlos Stewart, a onetime Bronco before transferring to LSU, is now a two-time Bronco after committing to come back.
He was first Team All-WCC in 2022-23. 15.2 PPG. 40% from 3pt.
The 6’1” junior guard only appeared in 13 games at LSU this past season due to a knee injury and averaged 4.7 PPG.
If Bal comes back instead of going pro, SCU will be formidable next season.
