Pomeroy has St. Mary’s winning 72-60 with an 85% probability.

Interestingly, RealTimeRPI has St. Mary’s winning by only 4 points; 79-75 with a 61% probability….but that prediction was made BEFORE St. Mary’s upset BYU in Provo.

Latest odds from Las Vegas have the Gaels by 12.

From our friend Zack Farmer:
Saint Mary’s (14-4, 3-1) at Portland (8-11, 1-3), 7:30 p.m., CSNCA, ROOT Sports

After Saint Mary’s thrilling win at BYU, there is no time for a letdown and Portland has been the site for some letdowns for the Gaels in the past. That likely will not be the case this time. Saint Mary’s has the best rebounding margin in the conference and is now facing the team with the worst offense in the conference. Portland’s Oskars Reinfelds has doubled his point total in conference play and has been much more consistent. He and Kevin Bailey were able to score against the Gonzaga backcourt but the Saint Mary’s crew of Dellavedova, Stephen Holt, Jordan Guisti, etc. should keep them in check.

Predicted winner: Saint Mary’s

Saint Mary's was almost useless for the first half of the first half against BYU's 3-2 zone. Going to be interesting to see what Reveno has in store for the Gaels tonight.

I hope one thing he has in store is giving more time to Oskars, who looked like he could help the Pilots last time out. Probably this time too.

Ugly. pale

Pilots shooting a blistering 25.7% from the field, with 16 turnovers so far.

I think I'm glad I'm missing this gem.

The Pilots end up shooting 23% for the game, 15.8% in the 2nd half. We had 3 FGs in the second half... Embarassed

Add on 18 turnovers (and 21 SMC points off them), and being out rebounded 34-36... not a pretty result. Evil or Very Mad

Many of the missed shots were close-range; we are this far into the season and we STILL can't finish at the rim.... frustrating, to say the least. Another result showing just how far we are away from being a top-tier team in the conference.

The all-you-can eat pasta and wine were excellent.

Great new tunes were played by the incomparable Portland Pride Pep Band.

The UP Women’s Basketball Team won today at LMU.

Like the pasta.

I think now that we have the full band back we've sounded great these last two games.

Reading the recap it sounds like a fantastic finish in LA. Happy for the women.

Now then: How do you make 10 field goals and expect to win? Is it me or is the offense going backwards these last games? What happened to the assertive play from the big guys? In December it looked like they were making progress. I'm just at a loss here.

Saint Mary’s Deals Pilots Home Loss

PORTLAND, Ore. --- Defending West Coast Conference champions Saint Mary’s defeated the Portland Pilots 60-38 Saturday night before 2,625 fans at the Chiles Center. Stephen Holt led three Gaels players in double figures with 13 points, while reigning WCC Player of the Year Matthew Dellavedova added 11 points and six assists.

Kevin Bailey, Thomas van der Mars and Oskars Reinfelds led the Pilots (8-12, 1-4 WCC) with seven points each.

Brad Waldow added 12 points for the visiting Gaels (15-4, 4-1), who won on the road for the second time this week after defeating BYU on a Wednesday 35-foot buzzer-beater by Dellavedova.

The 38 points scored for Portland was the fewest since the Pilots dropped a 53-31 decision to San Diego in 1989.

Portland shot a season-low 23 percent from the field, finishing 10-for-43 overall, and committed 18 turnovers which led to 21 points for the Gaels.

Back-to-back Saint Mary’s three-pointers by Mitchell Young and Jorden Page gave the Gaels a 23-9 lead with 5:00 remaining in the first half. Reinfelds buried a three-pointer and five straight points by Ryan Nicholas pulled Portland within 25-17. Bailey ended the period with a steal and dunk to make it 29-19.

A van der Mars jumper cut the deficit to 33-24, but a Waldow dunk pushed the margin back to double figures and the Pilots would get no closer than 12 points down the stretch.

Portland will look to re-group as the homestand continues on Thursday when the San Francisco Dons visit the Chiles Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game will be aired live on Comcast SportsNet Northwest. The BYU Cougars visit on Saturday, Jan. 26 with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off on ESPNU.

Still looking for positives:

I gave a "G'day, welcome to Portland” to Matthew Dellavedova’s dad before he shook my hand and gave me a, “Thanks mate….a little colder than home!”

@CoachReveno: "Defense doesn't win games. Balance wins games." - Jeff Van Gundy. Wish other cliche about D was true. Really guarded tonight, brutal on O.

I thought they did a decent job of shutting down the outside shots. But there were a few too many easy dumps to a wide open man at the basket. I assume this was someone not rotating quickly enough.

As far as O, ugly. Pull Hair

Agreed.

I've only been watching Pilots hoops for 50 years, but don't recall a worse game to watch....no flow whatsoever.

Seeing Kasey Flicker, Rick Brainard, and Jared Stohl on the court as part of the alumni night made me very nostalgic for guys who can SCORE!!

Seeing all four freshmen plus Riley Barker in the game for the last 5 minutes was fun to see, but they too could not accomplish anything even though they were presented wide open looks and free throws….and they’re the Pilots future.

St. Mary's should have been up 20 at halftime. They're still good, just not as great as they have been.
