Spring Schedule 2013

Next up, UW Sunday at 3:00.

Mid year freshman Amanda Perez gets her fist experience at Merlo.

She's the younger sister of Veronica Perez , uw's Mexican National team player.

Amanda was also named the Mexico's Algarve squad. I'm not sure if she actually saw minutes.

But we can see how she compares to her sister.

We're starting to see a few schedules posted on websites for the fall. For example, UTEP and Purdue have theirs out. No UP away games yet that I have seen. The nc-soccer site doesn't have 2013 link up yet, but I expect we'll see that once more schools have posted theirs.

Final UP 2:2 UW. Pretty sloppy game, and like most games with our neighbors to the North, a bit chippy.
Our goals came from Parker from the top of the box and a great individual effort from Mikaela rounding the fullback on the right and shooting from an angle.


But it was worth the watch, I got to see advantage called on UW when one of their players fouled Nicole in the box and she held on.

Imagine! You can get advantage from inside your own six.

Um, ref, they tell you to wait two or three seconds to see if advantage develops. Nicole took more than that to punt the ball....

From USSoccer's Advice to Refereees on the Laws of the Game:

The referee may return to and penalize the original foul if the advantage situation does not develop as anticipated after a short while (2-3 seconds). Referees should note that the "advantage" is not defined solely in terms of scoring a goal. Also, a subsequent offense by a player of the offending team must not be ignored while the referee allows the anticipated development of the advantage. Such an offense may either be recognized by stopping play immediately or by applying the advantage clause again. Regardless of the outcome of the advantage call, the referee must deal appropriately with any misconduct at the next stoppage, before allowing play to be restarted. (See also 12.27.)

and notice he MUST deal with the misconduct at the next stoppage of play. It doesn't say ignore the foul. Referees are supposed to protect keepers.

I should mention that Kaila was on crutches, and the scuttlebutt was an ACL injury.

Tough luck. I hope she heals well.

Sunday, April 20th we head to Corvalis to play the Beavs.

Game time is listed as 1:00 on the OSU site.

Ok. Seattle, then OSU.

I forgot the Canada u20 doesnt count as one of the five competition days in the Spring.

Maybe you shouldn't have stopped off for those 12% beers on the way home from the game. I just looked at the Seattle U website. It says they are playing 2 games on the 14th. PSU at 10:30 and UP at 3:00. That is pretty ambitious.

Col College and Kentucky have fall schedules out now. You can find links on the news feed tap on recruiting SS.

Um, two weeks ago is current....isn't that the last time we saw sunshine AND warm temperatures?

On the downside, two weeks ago is a way too current if you've torn your ACL in the interim.

Yup, Kaila isn't on crutches.

Second half just started vs Seattle U and Pilots lead 5-1. Frisbie has a hat trick and Capelle has a pair. UP winning all over the field. SU scored on a free kick after dubious foul.

Duke and A&M have fall schedules posted now. Haven't run into any away UP games yet.

Final is 6-1 with Cruz adding a goal.

It was a fun game for Pilot fans and I am sure for the players as well. Seattle was obviously worn down some from their morning game with PSU, which they lost 1-0.

The biggest surprise of the Spring for me so far has been the play of Sara Bindl or 'Bin' as her teammates call her. She has shown skills on defense that were not evident in her limited playing time last season. I suspect we will be seeing a lot more of her this Fall.

The upcoming game with the Beavers in Corvallis will be a real test for the team with their short bench (1 field player sub available this past weekend). The usual physical style of the PAC 10 will no doubt be in evidence and I am sure the Beavs will be in better physical condition than the Huskies who were noticeably gassed by the end of their game with the Pilots this Spring.

The Beavs beat the Sounders Women yesterday 1-0 at Starfire.

They don't have all the NT stars like last year, but still have a pretty good cadre of players , including Canadian and American u23's and Erin Mcnulty from the CNT and Penn State.

Are there any UP spring games this weekend? Coming to Portland for the Thorns/Reign game and would like to see a spring game.
