Pilots to Host Canadian Women’s U-20 National Team in Spring Exhibition Match
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women’s soccer team will welcome the Canadian Women’s U-20 National Team to Merlo Field for an exhibition match on Friday, March 22 at 6 p.m. The game is open to the public and all tickets will cost $5.
Admission is free for current University of Portland students.
“It’s always nice to have youth national teams come be a part of our spring season,” said Portland head coach Garrett Smith. “This provides a unique opportunity to play some of the world’s best up-and-coming players.”
Fans can purchase tickets in advance at the Pilot Box Office (M-F, 11am-5pm, 503-943-7525) or at TicketMaster.com. The Pilot Box Office has moved locations and can now be found inside the Chiles Center.
Tickets will also be available at the main entrance to Merlo Field just prior to kick-off next Friday night.
The Pilots are coming off their 13th straight NCAA post-season appearance last fall. Portland will lose just two seniors from its roster going into next fall, while adding the nation’s fifth-ranked incoming recruiting class.
The Pilots, who have won two national championships (2002 & 2005), have a rich history of featuring some of Canada’s top collegiate players, including 10-time Canadian Soccer Player of the Year and current national team captain Christine Sinclair.
“With the success that we’ve experienced with some of Canada’s top players, like Christine Sinclair, Sophie Schmidt, Wanda Rozwadowska and Elsa Hume, this is a great opportunity to give our fans a glimpse of the next generation of elite Canadian youth players on Merlo Field,” added Smith.

Re: Spring Schedule 2013
I would like to meet up with some of the posters from the site if anyone is going to the exhibition with the Canadian Women's team. How about a quick meet up at the end of the first period break? Any suggestions? It would be fun to put some faces to the screen names and pictures.
By the way, I don't look , much like my picture.

Where would be a good place to gather after the first break of the exhibition on Friday. The rail around the field closest to the entrance?

Re: Spring Schedule 2013
I went to the bluff to get my tickets for Friday's scrimmage...after which I decided to go watch the practice. I quickly left because the coaches were yelling a lot...complaining about mistakes. I decided that I didn't need a negative day, so I left.
Is this the norm for a practice?

Pilots to Host the Portland Thorns FC in an Exhibition Match at Merlo Field
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women’s soccer team will host the Portland Thorns FC in an exhibition match at Merlo Field on Saturday, March 30 at 7 p.m. The match will be a free, ticketless event and open to the public with a suggested donation at the door to benefit the Providence Heart and Vascular Institute’s Play Smart Young Heart Screening program.
“We’re excited to play against some of the best players in the world,” Portland junior forward Amanda Frisbie said. “This is a chance for us to play again, so it’s nice to be getting some game experience. It’s also exciting to see what the professional game has to offer because a lot of us have aspirations to play after college.”
The Pilots have reached the NCAA playoffs during 20 out of the past 21 years, advancing to at least the second round for 13 consecutive seasons. Portland, which won national titles in 2002 and 2005, will lose just two seniors from its roster going into next fall, while adding the nation’s fifth-ranked incoming recruiting class.
Thorns FC, which is a first-year program and is one of eight teams in the newly formed National Women’s Soccer League, feature former Portland standouts Christine Sinclair (2001-02, 2004-05), Danielle Foxhoven (2008-11) and Angie (Woznuk) Kerr (2003, 2005-07).
“We’re excited to have Sinc, Dani and Wozie back on campus,” said Portland head coach Garrett Smith. “It truly is exciting to see all of our alums in the pros, especially playing here for the Portland team. It’s great for our fans and it’s great for us here at the University of Portland.”
Thorns FC, which also features forward Alex Morgan and defender Rachel Buehler of the U.S. Women’s National Team, is preparing for the start of the inaugural NWSL season on April 13 against FC Kansas City at Shawnee Mission District Stadium in Overland Park, Kan. Thorns FC faces rival Seattle Reign FC on April 21 at JELD-WEN Field in the club’s home opener.
Providence Heart and Vascular Institute’s Play Smart Young Heart Screening program offers free heart screenings for youth ages 12-18 along with informational resources about sudden cardiac arrest and heart disease prevention. Well now I cannot make the match tonight. Will be helping a friend get her taxes done tonight. Sooooo, how about we faceless posters try to put a face to the avitar at the Pilots versus Thorns match next week at the first break? I printed out a picture of my avitar and screen name, so others can match my avitar to my face and see how much they look alike.

Well, it appears you are in some luck.

Re: Spring Schedule 2013
I was told Canada was a mix of U17s and 20s, which would explain the second half. Capelle had a brace, Parker was very good, and the defense looks improved.
I also got a tentative copy of the home fixtures at the game:
8/16 Portland St. (exhibition)
8/23 Marquette
9/6 Central Michigan (Nike Invitational)
9/8 Wake Forest (Nike Invitational)
9/13 Nevada
9/15 Missouri
9/27 Wyoming
10/20 Gonzaga
10/24 San Diego
10/26 BYU
11/7 Santa Clara
11/9 San Francisco
Wake will probably be the biggest non-conference home game. Marquette and CMU are pretty good too from what I recall.

Marquette was rated higher than Wake Forest for the 2012 season, #13 as I recall. They won the Big East regular season and tournament and are very good. Central Michigan is a good team to play for RPI purposes, as their contribution to strength of schedule is likely to be better than their rank, and they are likely to be over-ranked. Missouri also was a top 30 team and probably was underranked -- should have been in the top 25.

Re: Spring Schedule 2013
It was a pretty entertaining game. Canada actually wasn't bad in the midfield, but between good play by the back line and their inexperience figuring out what to do in the final third, they were pretty well shut out.
Sara Bindl did a really nice job at center back in bridges absence today winning balls and marking forwards.
The midfield pressured pretty well and forced them to make bad passes and were scrappy around the ball.
But the big difference was when we figured out how to start springing our speedsters and getting the crosses in from outside. They had no answer.
In addition to the scores was a pipe shot from Cruz ( I think) and a mad scramble sequence in front of their net that yielded three shots but no tally.
