Recruiting News: Never Too Early
As most of you know, I love recruiting gossip. I love talking about who the coaching staff is interested in and what direction they are going in. So here are a few names I've seen concerning UP. Some of these prospects have offers, others don't. Also, some of these kids may no longer be of interest. I would love if others updated this list by adding names, or taking names off this list. Also, It would be awesome if SOURCES were listed. My information comes from verbalcommits.com, leftcoastrecruiting.com, yahoo. Some are from those sites twitter accounts as well.

He's been described as a "coach's dream" on one site.

Re: Recruiting News: Never Too Early
Just to clarify, he's a 2014 player. Div 2 refering to High School Division in Arizona, not NCAA Div. 2

Re: Recruiting News: Never Too Early
Jacob Lamkin, 6-8, 200 and growing forward at O’Dea High School in Seattle, class of 2014.
Lampkin has a sinewy frame with long arms. He is a solid athlete who runs well in transition and can finish when given the opportunity. He is quite potent at the elbow area of the key where he can knock down his jump shot or deliver a nice pass.
Rev talked to him just a couple of days ago, I'm told.
Jason Todd, 6-6, 200 and growing forward at Jackson High School in Mill Creek, Washington, class of 2014.
Todd plays every possession hard. He always makes the extra pass, he is a vocal leader on the court, and he is an aggressive rebounder. He needs to work on his ball handling, but just about every other aspect of his game is fundamentally sound.
Natan Jurkovitz, 6-7, 190 forward from Lake Oswego High School class of 2014….a teammate of Calvin Hermanson.

That's 75% of last year's incoming freshman class.....GONE!
I consider Jake to be the biggest loss of all going forward after Rhino's graduation.

Re: Recruiting News: Never Too Early
I found this on the Verbal Commits site and came to complain about it but Urika beat me to the punch. Thought Ehlers had made some tremendous strides towards the end of the season so this sucks.
3 out of 4 from last year's freshman class gone.
Too bad there's no head-hitting-wall smiley.

Agreed. Sure, you might be able to find some juco PF to replace Ehlers' contribution next season...but then you're left with 7 graduating players the year after next. Seven! This one sure hurts, if it's true.DoubleDipper wrote:I consider Jake to be the biggest loss of all going forward after Rhino's graduation.
Yeah, that one.PurpleGeezer wrote:You mean like this?

The team was second to last in the league. Were we supposed to stand pat?

Interesting question. I don't think Reveno is a coach like USF's. Do You?
I think the guy might be a little too nice.
The reality is that for the program to succeed, the team has to win.
If we were first in the conference, the state of the program thread would be somewhat different in nature.

Re: Recruiting News: Never Too Early
Well, it does open a spot for 6-10 240 power forward Volodymyr Gerun from the Ukraine who will transfer after playing a total of 33 minutes in his one season at West Virginia.
My earlier post about Volodymyr is here:https://www.pilotnation.net/t5054-the-2013-offseason
I don’t know if he’s interested, and even if he were, he’d have to sit out a year and would have just two years of eligibility unless a waiver could be granted. A long shot I suppose, but when I saw he was a Canarius teammate of Thomas, I thought there might be a chance.

Re: Recruiting News: Never Too Early
I liked Jake so I hope it's not true, but it's on the list so it probably is. Ahern I expected to be either transfer or remain at up but not be on the team. Not many people walk on more than a year and his chances of getting a scholarship never seemed that good.

Offer out to 2014 PG Jadon Cohee (UP and Seattle have offers out, according to him).

Tough to lose one of our only two Oregon players. That can't help with the local recruiting.

Re: Recruiting News: Never Too Early
This stinks, for sure. It is an interesting move, as Ehlers likely would have seen decent playing time in 2013-14 as Nicholas' back up, and then inherited a starting position for his Jr & Sr seasons. In the long run, if he doesn't feel that the "fit" is right, it is better for both the team and him to move on.
The question is who can we get to replace him on short notice? We are really starting to get an imbalanced roster again, which is highly concerning to me.
The questions I keep asking: Are the players we are signing now an upgrade/improvement? Are we closing the talent gap between ourselves and the rest of the conference?
There is a TON of recruiting to be done in the next 2 years... we better get it right if we are going to improve.

Re: Recruiting News: Never Too Early
From ESPN national blog:
Also mentions Kendall Small in the post as a top defender. Thompson Jr. is under the "one year away" catagory
Stephen Thompson Jr. (Torrance, Calif./Bishop Montgomery)
2015, SG, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
Club Team: Superior Athletes Black
Status: UCLA, USC, Gonzaga, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington, Washington State, UTEP, Portland, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Bowling Green are interested.
Thompson Jr. is one of the more prolific shooters in his class out west. He has broad shoulders, good length and a high basketball IQ. His court demeanor is terrific and he is getting more productive off the dribble (heady passer). His frame, which lacks strength, is an issue while finishing through contact at the rim.
