R.I.P. Merlo trees
It appears that the pine trees at the Willamette Blvd. end of Merlo Field are being cut down as I write this.

So, it turns out they're removing fast-growing leyland cypress trees on Willamette Blvd. before they undermine more sidewalk and Merlo Field.eProf wrote:It appears that the pine trees at the Willamette Blvd. end of Merlo Field are being cut down as I write this.
You would have thought Stonehouse would have informed of this before now, but apparently he's been using his spare time to grab free drinks at parties.

I'll note they waited until I went out of town to start this.
I suppose this means there won't be any announcement when they start the Jumbotron and canopy construction....

Re: R.I.P. Merlo trees
This is the second phase of the project we started two years ago. We will be installing a new 8 ft high black fence, 100' long ball net system like on the west side and planting a new tree every 5 ft to create a hedge along the Willamette Blvd. side. Also, we are replacing the gates and fencing along the North side and adding Banner poles behind the student sections. Sorry, no Jumbotron or canopy as of yet.

The color is kind of dark and brooding, and the canopy doesnt really set off the venue ( I was thinking something more Rio Tinto)
but generally, it would be nice. My favorite part of the Aggie venue remodel is that the adult beverage area for the supporters group is right above and behind the main stands with full view of the game. You can see the mezzanine level behind the " Leadership" sign in this photo:
