Um, yea you're probably correct, but the guys looked like high school juniors to me....up7587 wrote:Not sure it applies to either recruiting thread. How about a trick shot thread?
Here they are again in a little longer version on YouTube.....plus you can see a few more from the KDP boys.

Apparently "The Pit" in Albuquerque has more appeal than the Chiles Center for Lightfoot. Still a while to go until he can sign his LOI, but he's already made a verbal to the Lobos.DTLegend wrote:Another name to add to the 2016 list is C Mitch Lightfoot from Ironwood Ridge (AZ)

Verbal Commits is reporting that Seattle Rainier Beach HS wing Keith Smith has been offered by UP.
Trouble is, he's apparently favoring UW and also has offers from UO, Arizona, OSU, WSU, Cal, GU, and SDSU.

Although Satterwhite made an unofficial visit to UP last summer, he recently made an official visit to Colorado and apparently made a verbal commitment to the Buffs.up7587 wrote:@VerbalCommits wrote:Portland has offered 2016 Gilbert Christian (AZ) G Cameron Satterwhite. 18 months later, Jashaun is rated as the #1 player in Washington's Class of 2016 by Seattle Basketball Services…but he's still only got one offer, from the Pilots.
Interesting.

Yeah, I guess that's what Verbal Commits is guessing, but I just don't think it's accurate.Terry Cahill wrote:DoubleDipper wrote:UP is, as far as I can tell, the first to make an offer to Seattle Garfield HS PG Jashaun Agosto......I expect there'll be about 100 more by the time he's commits.

Interesting.
As mentioned before, UP and other schools talk to student-athletes all the time as a way of continuing the relationship, but an actual "offer" is often implied, not officially given, because there is a lot of discussion before a school knows what their actual needs are and what other players might commit.
Agosto is pretty small by today's D1 standards for point guards, but I'm sure he's a fine player.
From what I can tell, there are at least 15 schools in touch with Agosto......at least 6 or 7 of which are from major conferences....after all, his high school team, Garfield, finished the year rated #17 in the nation.

Not just VC - he was quoted just a couple of months ago that his only offer was from Portland.
As you said, I'm sure that'll change at some point...just find it odd that UP remains his only offer.

Lightfoot has decided to reopen his recruiting, and is no longer committed to UNM.DoubleDipper wrote:Apparently "The Pit" in Albuquerque has more appeal than the Chiles Center for Lightfoot. Unlike finding and discussing possible recruits to replace Pilots who are graduating from UP in 2015, unless someone besides Max and Bryce depart in 2016, there will be room for only one more student-athlete in addition LDS missionary and 2014 recruit, Alec Monson next year. But at what position will the need be the greatest?
One recruit that I'm sure is being watched by the UP staff is Reynolds HS forward Dakota Ayala. Not just a local kid, which is always a bonus, but a kid who is

Re: 2016 Recruiting
If Maker indeed redshirts for the 2015-16 season, the class balance in 2016-17 would be ideal:
Seniors (3): Wintering, Marshall, Barreno
Juniors (4): Tyson, Todd, Taylor, Hartwich
Sophomores (3): Johnson, Russell, Jackson
Freshmen (3): Monson, Maker, ________
Hard to say what the top position priority would be for that one remaining roster spot for the recruiting class of 2016. Probably a point guard (e.g. Agosto) or a center. I say that because the following year ('17-'18), each of those positions will be down to one returning guy (following the graduation of Wintering and Barreno), and it would be good for the back-up to not be a true freshman (recruiting class of 2017).
PG: Wintering (Sr), Johnson (Soph)
SG: Tyson (Jr), Jackson (Soph), Monson (Frosh)
SF: Marshall (Sr), Todd (Jr), Maker (Frosh)
PF: Taylor (Jr), Russell (Soph)
C: Barreno (Sr), Hartwich (Jr)

Re: 2016 Recruiting
I don't think there's any doubt whatsoever that Chiir will indeed redshirt this coming season.......and from what I can determine, based upon what are thought to be similar situations at other schools, it would seem likely that he will not be able to practice with the team until the end of the 2016 academic year.NoPoNeighbor wrote:If Maker indeed redshirts for the 2015-16 season, the class balance in 2016-17 would be ideal:
I like your projections, NPN.....if I had a vote, it would be for the BIG man in 2016 as they just take so much longer to develop. But if there were a high level PG, such as Agosto, that would like to come to UP, the staff should grab him and pick up a JC sophomore or junior big man in 2017.

Thought you'd like to see some 5th grade video.....Jashaun is still on the board with 6 months to go until the early signing period in November. But with apparently only one scholarship available in 2016, what are UP's priorities?KTodd wrote:Love these videos. Jason (Todd) and Jashaun (Agosto) have been going at it since the 5th grade.

Re: 2016 Recruiting
Approximately 6 years later Jashuan is a little bigger (various sources list him at 5-8/5-9 and 140) and he was selected 1st Team Seattle All Metro PG at the end of the season. Jashaun led his team to a 27-2 record in 2014-15.
His Garfield team beat Rainier Beach for the Washington State 3A title.
Jashuan is #1 in the video...

What I had found impressive in the first video was his 4:50 mile time at the age of 11.

Re: 2016 Recruiting
He apparently managed 4:47.52 in the 1500 at AAU Nationals, which got him second place.
A standard conversion factor to mile times is to multiply the time times 1.08

Here's the text of a post on let's run.com about both his performance in 2008 and the hype over it.

Jashaun has some elite talent & ability. He lost that race
at the AAU nationals by .01.
1 Penington, John 97 Southfield, MI 4:47.51
2 Agosto, Jashaun 97 Federal Way, WA 4:47.52
However, his Dad & the media want to make him into the 2nd comming of Jordan/Pre. They use 1500 meters 1600 meters & 1 mile as the same distance. If you look on his myspace page his times are just bs.
Dad & media say he can run between a 4:40-4:50 mile as an 11 year old. And he is going after the world record @ a mile.
Bottom line a terrific runner yes. 9th best time for his age group in 2008.
1 Noah Kauppila 4:41.42 2 Luke Hendrix '96 4:41.52(A) 3 Bailey Roth '96 4:44.25 4 Ryan Klachko 4:45.97 5 Logan Hendrix '96 4:46.01(A) 6 Troy Schultz '96 4:46.05(A) 7 Shane Streich '97 4:46.97 8 John Penington '97 4:47.51(A) 9 Jashaun Agosto '97 4:47.52(A)
Is it cool for a kidto train 4 hours a day? no.
Number one jobof a good coach or good Dad... don't hurt the kid.

Re: 2016 Recruiting
So 4:47 for a 1500 is like a 5:10 mile. Still damned impressive for that age group.
I found that page you got that from, Geez...the Internet can be a mean place sometimes.

Yeah. Anonymity can make people pretty nasty.
I wonder if any of the 8 kids above him have talked to coach Connor.

Haha yea. 4:50 and 5:10 are very different. I train to run around those times right now. I could probably get close to 5:10 at this very moment, but I'll have to train all summer to get to 4:50.

Looks like the Pilots have a big man for 2016! 6-10 Joseph Smoyer from Franklin HS.

Re: 2016 Recruiting
Confirmation will have to come from Smoyer himself at this stage.DTLegend wrote:Any confirmation on this?
He was at the UP Team Camp this past week, and he’s attended at least two UP Elite Camps over the last couple of years, as I recall, so there is an obvious familiarity between Smoyer, the UP coaches and players, and the Chiles Center.
I saw a quote sometime back from Smoyer's dad, Chris Myers, saying, “I just want him to play for a great coach. There are great coaches in a lot of places, and bad coaches in a lot of places – I just want him to find someone that he loves playing for for four years.”
Up until TC’s post, I’d only heard Smoyer's name mentioned in conjunction with Montana State, but he must be a pretty fair student because he’s apparently had some interest from Brown and Yale of the Ivy League.
I’d have to say Smoyer is another “below the radar” guy because like many tall guys (he’s still very skinny, IMO), he’s developing a little later than others his age. What impressed at the camps was his skills/fundamentals development…..very good footwork and the ability to shoot from mid to longer range, and his practiced use of both hands when shooting from under the basket. Listed at 6-10, there’s no way he’s a center at this stage in his maturity….maybe after a redshirt year developing under Coach Scott his body will grow, but for now he’s probably a small forward. Time will tell.
If Smoyer is indeed the guy, and if no student-athlete transfers out, that completes the 2016 recruiting….good to see another local guy find a spot on the Bluff.
