I absolutely agree that I am not going to get too excited until we start getting some wins, as we have been let down for decades. But, there is reason for optimism if we can land a few of these types over a couple cycles.

Everyone agrees. Not sure what the discussion really is about other than we have been losers for a while so important that we not get excited. Nuts to that.

Anyone care to compare the offers to MsSwiggan, who I use as an example, with the other offers conveyed to members of the current Pilot team before their commitment here. There is a point to be made, but a larger point on which all agree: let's wait and see how they do on the court.

Marcus Shaver was once considered a top recruiting priority by Terry Porter's staff, but in November he signed with UCSB. Now, after UCSB went 6-22, and there's been a coaching change, Shaver has been released from his NLI.

Shaver is back on the board....and all indications are he's still a top priority for UP.

Heard third-hand today that UP has decided not to make a scholarship offer to Usman Haruna. Someone who was at the workout/tryout on Saturday said he just had some shortcomings in certain areas of his game that could not be "coached-up" in his prospective two years on the Bluff (I understand he was up against Philipp Hartwich during the tryout).

No word from Ty Cockfield yet, and it could be up to four weeks or as early as tomorrow before we do. I will say that from my extremely short time with him on Friday night, he's got the personality to lead this "new" Pilots team....I think the fans will love him.

Considering that it is the day before prospective student athletes can sign, you would think that if Ty Cockfield were inclined to be a Pilot he would not be "tweeting" about other schools and other offers. Though it is not confirmed and we may yet be surprised, the sage who posted here that it would be difficult to gain Cockfield's commitment as he is from the southeast, particularly given the number of schools offering him from that neck of the woods, may have been correct.

I do not know whether the Pilots may prefer to hold some scholarships, waiting for the right talent, as Stonehouse suggested they might consider doing.

We have one commitment from McSwiggan this spring and more to offer. This time tomorrow we may know more about our recruits for 2017-18.

Ty has gone from four known offers to eight, just in the past seven days. Even if there was one school that was a frontrunner in his mind, can't blame the kid for retweeting news about other offers.

That same sage posted that Ty has over twenty offers. And, I think a good portion came before the last 8 days.

Scholarships are becoming available elsewhere too:

Breaking: Gonzaga freshman Zach Collins will declare for the NBA Draft, intends to hire an agent.

Collins is someone we can be glad that the Pilots will not need to compete against again, at least if we intend to win a game. I assume it unlikely they are going to now poach any bigs we seek.

Ha! I didn't even see you had posted a minute before I did.

All remains quiet on the fax machine front. I kind of thought we may have been mildly surprised with a Geno West announcement today, but he might have a good situation there in Moscow.

If UP offered Geno a scholarship, it was probably late in the process. Idaho has been courting him for quite some time, so you have to respect his loyalty to the school that contacted him first and stayed with him the longest.

Not sure how he'll adjust to Moscow....I guess we'll find out in the next year or two.

Two did visit, but the 7-0 post was not offered a scholarship. Pretty sure the staff is awaiting a decision from Ty Cockfield, who may still be sorting through multiple offers, before they move on to other recruits.

There's a good chance the coaches have invited even more recruits for a visit in the coming week or weeks....the official signing period doesn't end until May 17th, but you can bet the recruits would like to sign well before then.

Still looking for a post and a point guard, probably via high school or transfer at this point.
