I guess that narrows down which WCC school that Marcus Shaver is visiting this weekend.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
The competition for Shaver is stiff. Clearly the Pilot staff is aiming high with its offer. I do not recall a player who came to Pilots with two Pac-12 offers and an offer from another Power 5 school, except transfers Canaan Chatman and Ross who left OSU and transferred to Portland, close to their home; their recruiting activity was before their original commit. Jason Franklin had an offer from Oregon.
Of the two offers who we know are out to point or combo guards, Shaver may be the better player.
ESPN wrote the following analysis of Shaver as a player:
ESPN Analyst
Updated 03/29/2017
Strengths:
Shaver is a terrific looking point guard prospect who has solid length, a terrific burst, and the versatility to play both backcourt positions. He is a blur in the open court where he can slash his way to the rim or he can drain the pull-up jump shot. Not too mention he exhibited enough facilitating skills to warrant that point guard label. He advances the ball well in the open court and possesses that lethal combination of scorer/facilitator.
Weaknesses:
Shaver needs to continue to improve his half court point guard skills. Running pick-and-rolls and handing out skip passes against the zone will help his development. His jump shot is solid out to the stripe, but it could be more consistent.
Bottom Line:
Shaver is one of the better point guard prospects on the west coast regardless of class.

South Florida was one of the schools that had recently offered Ty Cockfield, but looks like they found another PG in Jiggets.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
Hard to say if that will stop Cockfield from signing with South Florida (USF) as Jiggets is a grad transfer and will have just one year there. On the other hand, he would be an excellent mentor to highly recruited freshman Henry Bibby, Jr.Dean Murdoch wrote:South Florida was one of the schools that had recently offered Ty Cockfield, but looks like they found another PG in Jiggets.@JonRothstein wrote:FDU grad transfer Stephan Jiggets tells me that he has committed to South Florida. Coincidence? Cockfield and Usman Haruna visited UP together, and now Haruna has been offered by USF.

I met two guys like that at the dorm, both of whom were touring the campus with Marcus Shaver.DoubleDipper wrote:We all know "bigs" generally develop late. If UP brings in a high school 4/5 at this point in the recruiting process it will likely be someone we've not yet heard of, and it will likely be someone the coaches believe will develop into a D1 player....eventually.
Tall guys, about 6-10, but I don't recall their names, just that one was from Canada and one from Hawaii, and both were high school seniors.

I think the one from Hawaii was "Hank" or "Hugh" and the guy from Canada had a name that started with "F" and he had hair like Kramer....the Kramer on TV.

I believe that now makes 7 non-seniors who have left the program at South Florida.@VerbalCommits wrote: South Florida G Mike Bibby, Jr. (FR) is leaving the program.
Is it now more likely Cockfield ends up there?

Definitely has the hair but looks to now be off the board:
http://theprovince.com/sports/basketball/did-ubc-mens-hoops-just-pull-off-one-of-their-greatest-recruiting-coups-in-landing-grant-shepard
How many 6'10" prospective basketball recruits in British Columbia could there be with hair like that?
Can you pick the suspect big out of a picture throw down rather than a straight line up?
Perhaps this is another big Porter did not offer?

Re: 2017 Recruiting
With the help of StudentPilot's cell phone camera and Dean Murdoch's extensive knowledge of Canada hoops, we now know the "near Vancouver" man who's name starts with "F" with Kramer-like hair who is currently visiting UP....it's Fardaws Aimaq, a 6-10/245 power forward from Richmond, Canada.
Probably a man who could use a redshirt year to develop, but certainly "under the radar" with only one known offer: USF, but with interest from Yale, which could indicate very good academic credentials.

Re: 2017 Recruiting
Talk about "under the radar," the "Hank or Hugh" in Hawaii was not easy to find, but he is Hugh Hogland, better known as a defensive specialist and volleyball player, but still the Gatorade POY last season. At 6-9/220, Hogland would almost certainly be a candidate to redshirt wherever he goes to school.
He reportedly was about to walk-on or sign at UCSB before the coaching change there...
Hugh is the one without the beard....

I don't really follow the high school scene much here, but his alma mater Iolani (pronounced 'ee-oh-lah-nee' for those not from here ) is one of the top programs in the state from what I read/hear. They usually have good runs in the state tournament and I recall they won it all last year. They also hold a preseason tournament where they bring in some of the top HS programs in the country.

The first link is for the Hawaii POY 15-16. His stats are respectable. His films show him to be athletic.
