Padre Passes Away
I was sad to read that Padre died yesterday (Sunday, 12/9/07) in South Bend. From the UP website: http://www.up.edu/news/shownews.asp?id=3467
Fr. Arthur Schoenfeldt, CSC, but known to everyone as "Padre", was one of the most friendly, caring people you could know on campus... I did not realize he was in poor health.
Padre was the first person I remember meeting upon arriving on campus as a freshman... he came up to me (and my parents) as we were walking towards Shipstad... and welcomed us and told me I was entering a very special place, and told my folks that I was going to be in very good hands. He was a great guy.
Rest in peace, Padre.

Re: Padre Passes Away
How sad...
Padre was indeed a wonderful man - he always took the time to talk to me whenever I saw him around campus, and even sent me a book in the mail when I had mentioned a particular author that I liked. He was a great lover of literature... the Schoenfeldt Lecture series was founded several years ago and always brings in great writers and academics to speak on campus - I believe Padre and his sister started the endowment for it. Such a kind and generous guy - he will definitely be missed.
RIP Padre.
