Comment:  Everyone loves the Villa Drum Squad and the drums....but it is my understanding the rules have NOT yet been changed, and "artificial noise makers" are still banned from NCAA Playoff games.
 
Question:  The players love hearing the drums as they get revved up and eventually file into Merlo....would it NOT be against the rules for the Villans to remain just OUTSIDE Merlo and keep the drums going?  I think that, combined with chants/yells going on IN the stadium, would be double cool.

Are drums "artificial noisemakers"? Try telling that to a tympanist.

It was my impression that on the road some schools banned "artificial noise makers".
The VDS did just what you said, remained just out side.
just out side most other schools is every close.
Some only have a forgotten field with collapsible bleachers on one side, no admission cost, so just a little fence.
With Merlo there is no good place to watch the game and drum from out side the stadium.

Well, actually, just behind the goal on the sidewalk next to the parking lot could work pretty well, IMO.
 
Otherwise, some may just have to sacrafice watching the game for the good of the team, and take up residence between the student section and the Chiles Center.

Those aren't noisemakers. They are our official band, and by NCAA rule,must be admitted free to the venues.

True!

Unfortunately, per NCAA rules, the band may not play during game action.

So, the drummers will be allowed to play pre-game, half-time, post-game, etc., but not during play.

Lots of lung power will be needed!

I can't remember which year. but I remember somebody tried to keep them out and Williams pointed out the rule in the Tournament handbook and had the Villans "officialized".  I'm guessing it was when we went to Stanford. they try to control everything.
