Tough Night for the WCC
League teams only won 1 of 4 tonight. Gonzaga lost to Dayton 84-79 in Maui! Channel surfing, I saw they were up 16-8 early, and I moved on. They still led by 9 at half, but gave up 52 points in the 2nd half and lost.
San Diego lost to IL-Chicago, that came in 1-3, on a neutral court in FL. That's USD's first loss. And LMU lost 77-68 to Vanderbilt in St. Thomas.
The only bright spot for the WCC was BYU giving Texas their first loss 86-82 in MO.

And even tougher for USF - Cody Doolin has left the team for personal reasons.
Edit - check out this Dons Central thread to see USF fans lose their collective minds - and who can blame them? Doolin's not only a great player but a heart & soul type - the Pilot equivalent of this would be if Nicholas quit.
Edit 2 - and if (Big If) there's an ounce of truth to what they're saying may have precipitated Doolin's departure from USF, that would have to be it for Rex Walters. Like, not at the end of the year. Tonight.

Re: Tough Night for the WCC
I've been following the Cody Doolin saga since I noticed he was not in the lineup against Montana a few nights ago. At first it was said he "went home to Texas to take care of some personal problems," but it's finally been revealed that he will remain in school, but leave the basketball program.
Here's an official announcement from USF:
Here's an official announcement from USF:
Senior Cody Doolin has announced he wll forego the remainder of his senior season playing basketball at the University of San Francisco due to personal reasons.
Doolin will remain enrolled at the University and is scheduled to receive his degree in finance in the spring.
"I respect Cody's decision to devote more time to other matters in his life that will require his attention away from basketball," said head coach Rex Walters. "Cody has been such a big part of the basketball program since the day he arrived at USF. I want nothing but the best for him and truly appreciate the time, energy and passion he had in his time here. He did great things on and off the court and I know that he will do great things after graduating in the spring. We will miss him and he will always be a USF Don."
Doolin started every game (103) of his career at point guard. He averaged 13.0 points and 7.0 assists through the first four games of the season, which included a career-high 33-point effort against Nevada. Doolin concludes his career ranked second on USF's career charts with 451 assists.

Re: Tough Night for the WCC
I've made plenty of comments about Rex Walters over the last couple of years, as have others, and none have been of the positive variety.
Two years ago USF gave Walters a contract extension taking him through the 2015-16 season......I'm with you on this DM…..I don't see how he can last that long.....IF HE HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH DOOLIN LEAVING THE TEAM......but I think he will finish out the season in the school's effort to salvage the season. USF has a very influential alumni base, so it may depend on the collective will of those folks to determine Walters' fate.
From a selfish standpoint, I hate to see Doolin leave the team....he may be a thorn in the Pilots side, but he's a wonderful kid to watch on the court.

Ha, ha....if you go to the PilotNation USF Notes thread, you'll find there isn't a lot of support there either.....and that was BEFORE the Cody Doolin saga blew up...up7587 wrote:Wow. Not much support for Rex on Dons Central.

Re: Tough Night for the WCC
I was looking through the numbers at USF, and it appears Cody Doolin was only one of two student-athletes still left from the 2010 recruiting class…..the other is Cole Dickerson.
I didn’t research it completely, but it would appear the Dons have had 14 student-athletes leave the program in the last four years….
Not sure if any or all transfers can be attributed to one or two reasons, and it may be an oversimplification, but it would appear court-time is more important than class-time and a degree at USF.

I was surprised to see that there was any support for him, but there definitely was some.up7587 wrote:Wow. Not much support for Rex on Dons Central.
On a side note. Dons Central is just plain unreadable. It's 2013. Time to upgrade to a better forum software.

Hmm, DC is about as good as most school forums IMO, I think we're just spoiled by PN.....thanks again to the founders and administrators.blacksheep wrote:I was surprised to see that there was any support for him, but there definitely was some.up7587 wrote:Wow.
