UP's two games in Southern California this weekend concludes the Pilots first swing through the WCC, marking the half-way point of the 18-game league schedule.

After losing to SCU, but beating USF last weekend, it will be important for the Pilots to win at both PU and LMU this weekend and hope that SCU gets knocked off by BYU and USD on the road so UP can claim 6th place alone in the WCC standings.

If SMC knocks off UOP in Moraga on Saturday, the Pilots even have a chance of moving into 5th place.

The Pilots should be able to win both games, but it will just depend if which of the Jekyll and Hyde teams shows up….and can UP keep from being buried in the first half before attempting a second half comeback!

It was a good road win for the Pilots tonight.....they did sort of Jekyll and Hyde again by scoring only 22 points in the first half, but as PU also only scored 22, the Pilots usual good second half resulted in a 10 point victory.

SCU lost Thursday evening at USD, so the Pilots are now in sole possession of the all important 6th place in the WCC standings.

I can only imagine how Coach Sollars must feel after seeing his team behind by as many as 34 points in today’s game before losing 78-64 at LMU…..but one has to think he’s starting to think his pending retirement is looking awfully good.   

The Pilots went on a 20-0 run in the second half in keeping with their trend all year, but of course they were in too deep a hole to come close to matching LMU.

UP is now 4-5 half way through league play with 6 games still to play in the Chiles Center.  I frankly don’t see them winning any more road games, but they have the possibility of finishing at 9-9 if they can avoid upsets at home.

In somewhat of an upset this afternoon, UOP beat SMC in Stockton to move 1 game ahead of the Pilots in the standings.
