Both Stephanie (now Cox) and Angie are on the 27 player roster for next week's US Women's Team camp at the Home Depot Center. This is in advance of the Four Nations tournament in China later in January. There will be 20 players on the roster for the tournament. Whoopie! Very Happy

Thanks for the tip, UPSF. I'd like to think Stephanie Cox, (man that sounds strange!), is a lock based on her previous WC 2007 performance. If anyone is on the bubble, I would guess it's Angie. But even if she doesn't make the final roster, it is another important step forward for Wozzie, who I believe has a shot at being a playmaking mid for the US Team for many years.

Also, great show of emotional support, UPSF. It's definitely okay on this board to let it all hang out!!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Go Pilots!!! Go Steph and Woz!!!

for those of you who think angie is on the bubble let me remind you that when both tiffeny an shannon graduated they were both thougth to be on 'the bubble'. tiffeny blew the competition away, shannon had to work at it. either way, whether angie is on the bubble or not, i am positive that she has the heart an desire to show the national team coaches that it would be a mistake to leave her off the team!!

Right on, fozzie! I hope Woz blows her competition off the field, also. Very Happy

Will she play attacking mid? Who is her competition anyway? I'm not up to speed on all the national team players. scratch

I think she'll get a pretty good look. Pia Sundhage has stated she's looking for a more European brand of soccer (read she wants players who can pass the ball rather than just bang and boom).

There are a couple of players like that on the team already - Aly Wagner is probably at the top of my list in that regard, and of course Stephanie is probably the best defender at it, but the team needs more players like that or current players are going to have to play the new style.

I think if Angie can show she can play good enough defense, she'll earn a spot.

Times were a bit different then. those two players had to contend with the UNC mafia, where you didn't get on the team if your college colors weren't baby blue. Don't forget that Tiff took April Hendricks' spot on the team when April got hurt and had trouble keeping a spot after April got healthy, despite being a clearly better player.

Also helps explain why Tiff didn't get along with April when she was the coach.

Those days are mostly over now.

I didn't know that about Tiffeny and April, geezer. It is interesting insight into their eventual relationship difficulties. Mad Mad Mad

Thanks also for the info on Angie and her chances with the National Team.

GO WOZZIE!!!

i personally think that ali wagner is on her way down with playing time on the international team. i think that angie's competition is demartino from ucla, at least that is what graham hayes from espn thinks.
i remember overhearing a conversation when tiffeny was at a u of p game, an what i could garner, she is NOT a fan of ali wagners. i dont think tiffeny was even given her due on the national team, over shadowed by mia while being just about as effective.

Fozzie, I can't keep up with you. I want to ask you a question about this entry and you've already entered another on a different topic! Question is, how did you find out what Graham Hayes thinks? Can you give me a link or something like that?

Great news from a really good inside source: Angie's been offered a contract with the national team. So if all goes well and she stays healthy she should be going to the Olympics. The team has to qualify in April.

Wow!

great for Angie! This would seem to confirm the direction Pia is taking the team.

Now... maybe we'll get to see a report of her play in the next two games.

I think Wozzie's going to be a dazzling trickster in the midfield for the national team for years to come. Great to see such a hard working talent get her just rewards!

Way to go Angie...you have earned it! Now just enjoy it! cheers cheers cheers
