2015 CIT Information!
So, the information is starting to trickle out, and we can update this thread as we know more.
The UP Athletic Department has confirmed the following information:
The Pilots will be hosting a yet-to-be determined opponent on Wednesday, 3/18 at 7pm. We may not know the opponent until as late as Sunday. It is anticipated that tickets will cost $5 for students and $10 for adults.
I hear there is going to be an information blitz on this starting soon... and a full UP press release this afternoon.

Re: 2015 CIT Information!
This guy is nice enough to keep a CIT/CBI page with all confirmed entries.

Looks like a pretty mediocre field so far but it'll get a bit stronger with a couple Big West schools in there.

What's missing are the schools with better resumes that may be holding out for invites to the NCAA/NIT tourneys... and they wont know their fate until selection Sunday...

Wins are good. Hey, I saw the CIT will have a 30-second shot clock too...so nice to get the returning players some experience with that if the NCAA does indeed go to 30 for all games next year.

Portland Men’s Basketball to Host CIT First Round on Wednesday
On the Web: http://portlandpilots.com/news/2015/3/12/MBB_0312152930.aspx
PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland men’s basketball team has accepted a bid to the 2015 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) and will host a first round game at the Chiles Center on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. Tournament matchups will be announced no later than Sunday. This is the first postseason men’s basketball game hosted by Portland in program history.
“The opportunity to continue the season and provide our seniors with a chance to compete in front of our home fans once again is a great reward,” Portland Athletic Director Scott Leykam said. “We wanted to back up our commitment as a University by not just accepting a postseason bid, but also providing a home game. The ability to compete in postseason play not only is a reward to our graduating seniors, but also an opportunity for our staff and returning players to help grow the program for the future. We hope the Portland community creates a great Chiles Center atmosphere on Wednesday.”
Tickets start at $5 for kids/students and $10 for adults and will be general admission open seating. They will go on sale Monday at 11 a.m. through all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.TicketMaster.com, or in-person at the Pilot Box Office.
The first 500 student tickets will be purchased by the University of Portland Athletic Department and be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students can swing by the Cove on Monday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to pick up the tickets. Any remaining tickets will be available at the Pilot Box Office in the Chiles Center.
This is the fourth postseason appearance in the last seven years for the Pilots under head coach Eric Reveno. Portland also competed in the CIT in 2009, 2010 and 2011 – the team went on the road for the opening round all three seasons.
“We are very excited to accept the invitation to the CIT,” Reveno said. “This team wants to compete for a championship and recognizes what a great opportunity this is to continue to grow as players and as a team. We also realize that this is a step in the process of building the program toward bigger goals. It is always great to be able to go out and compete against quality opponents and represent the University of Portland with pride.”
The Pilots (17-15) secured a postseason bid after making a run to the West Coast Conference Championship semifinals with a 69-52 upset of Saint Mary’s on Saturday. Portland was eliminated from the tournament with a loss to second-seeded BYU on Monday.

Updated list of possible first round opponents. Took Beach off as their loss to Hawaii knocked them under .500 for the year. All except Grand Canyon (ineligible) and UNC (knocked out by NAU) are still in their conference tournaments.

Re: 2015 CIT Information!
By the way...I see home games in the CIT were going for $35,000 last year. Does anyone want to start a crappy postseason tournament with me? Must have a sub-.500 record and can't be in a major conference to be eligible for this thing. Home games are a bargain at only $5,000 each, and with a 64-team tournament that means that we're taking in a total of $315,000 for doing nothing but sending out a few invites and setting up a bracket.

I guess I just assumed that they'd try not to match the Pilots up with someone they've played already this year. PSU and Sac State fell into that category.

Re: 2015 CIT Information!
Eastern Washington has earned its way into the Big Sky final....I'm rooting for them and their automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
IMO, EWU is NOT a team the Pilots will want to play.
Hawaii, Seattle U, UCI, UCSB and N. Arizona all play tonight....so UP's opponent could be drawing closer to being named.

Watched EWU come from 11 down with a 21-6 run in the last 3+ minutes to beat Montana 69-65.
I still assert EWU is not the team UP wanted to face in the CIT....and now they won't have to....
If I had a vote, I'd love to see UP face Cameron Dollar and his Seattle U. team....unless they beat NM St. tonight. We need an I-5 rivalry to the north.
UCI is playing Hawaii right now...either team would be tough, but I'm not sure the Pilots want to run with the Rainbow Warriors or compete on the inside with UCI's 7-6/300 Mamadou Ndiaye or 7-2/260 Ioannis Dimakopoulos.
No wonder Conor Clifford transferred.

Re: 2015 CIT Information!
Hawaii bounced by Irvine in the BW finals, and apparently won't play in the CBI or CIT.
So that leaves UCSB, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Seattle, and Grand Canyon on my non-exhaustive list of possibilities.
I'll agree with DD and guess Seattle. I know they try to keep travel costs down for the CIT.

I thought Sac St. or Seattle U might be the foes, but since UP has already played Sac St. and the Seattle U. matchup would have provided much more interest....I had to think Seattle U. would be the selection.
Obviously the selection committee, which is large and diverse, is paid to think otherwise.

Re: 2015 CIT Information!
If it is indeed the Hornets that UP will play, there is one player in particular the Pilots must stop, senior SG Mikh McKinney.
McKinney put up 32 points against the Pilots back in mid-December and just last week was named the Big Sky MVP.
I also remember Sac St. was a lot better team than most of us expected. UP was favored by 2 and won 80-75, but the Sac St. tandem guards were very tough at both ends of the court and the Pilots struggled at times.
UP had 19 turnovers, but there were almost an equal number of assists. Thomas only missed one shot and was pretty dominant on the boards, but scored only a couple of points in the second half.
The game against Sac St. was the first game after the OSU O/T loss and was right after final exams. It wasn't pretty, but the Pilots hung on without KB playing....but UP did have Riley Barker back in December.
KenPom currently ranks Sac St. at #198 and UP at #125, but Sac St. has the higher RPI, #142, while UP's RPI ranks #149. This should be a good match up....but from an interest and regional standpoint I would have preferred to see Seattle U.

Portland to Host Sacramento State in CIT First Round on Wednesday
On the Web: http://portlandpilots.com/news/2015/3/15/MBB_0315155945.aspx
PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland men's basketball team will host the Sacramento State Hornets in the opening round of the 2015 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) at the Chiles Center on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. This is the first postseason men's basketball game hosted on the Portland campus in program history.
"The opportunity to continue the season and provide our seniors with a chance to compete in front of our home fans once again is a great reward," Portland Athletic Director Scott Leykam said. "We wanted to back up our commitment as a University by not just accepting a postseason bid, but also providing a home game. Tickets start at $5 for kids/students and $10 for adults and will be general admission open seating. They will go on sale Monday at 11 a.m. through all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.TicketMaster.com, or in-person at the Pilot Box Office. Doors will open one hour prior to tip-off and Pregame Pasta Dinner will be available, as well as all regular Pilot Club activities.
Wednesday’s game will be a rematch from earlier this season when the Pilots pulled out an 80-75 win at Sacramento State on Dec. 14. It marked the lone home loss for the Hornets (20-11, 13-5 Big Sky) on the season. Brian Katz earned Big Sky Co-Coach of the Year Honors for the Hornets, while senior guard Mikh McKinney was the league’s Player of the Year.
This is the fourth postseason appearance in the last seven years for the Pilots (17-5) under head coach Eric Reveno. Portland also competed in the CIT in 2009, 2010 and 2011 – the team went on the road for the opening round all three seasons.

The Pilots secured a postseason bid after making a run to the West Coast Conference Championship semifinals with a 69-52 upset of Saint Mary's on Saturday. Portland was eliminated from the tournament with a loss to second-seeded BYU on Monday.
In its seventh year of existence, the CIT consists of a 32-team field made up of non-BCS programs that were not selected to the NCAA Tournament or the NIT (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12 and SEC teams are not considered). All 31 games during the tournament are played on campus sites, with future round opponents determined by results of the previous round.

Re: 2015 CIT Information!
It would be nice if the Pilots can get to the Sweet 16 of the CIT, but as Coach Brown often reminds us from his time in Spain, "Un juego a la vez."
I believe Sac St. had its best Big Sky record ever this year (13-5) and they won 20 games, so they will be a tough matchup for UP.
It's easy to say UP must limit its turnovers, dominate the boards, and shut down Big Sky Player of the Year, Mikh McKinney....but it might be more difficult to actually accomplish. If they don't, there won't be a second round for the Pilots.

Re: 2015 CIT Information!
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It is not uncommon in these "other" tournaments to have teams not fully engaged in the game... some are disappointed that they didn't get in a better tourney, some just seem ready to have the season end, some are just excited to still be playing... which teams will we see on Wednesday? I hope to see the "vs SMC in Vegas" Pilots and not the "@ LMU" team.
