Hmmm, not so sure about that.Terry Cahill wrote:I guess someone had to start this.
Owing to the decided lack of interest and/or comments on PilotNation over the last year, I would say this site has ended its run as a useful exchange of ideas and information.
I've heard there are a number of lurkers/readers here, but a look at posts over the last few months would indicate there are really only five or six contributors of any significance.
Not sure how this forum was started or how the charter members were recruited (I didn't join until 4 years after PN was established), but now might be the time to either resuscitate this site or shut it down due to lack of interest.
I'd love to read other's comments about this, but I'd much rather read comments about UP athletics!

Weekend thread where the Pilots swept LMU and Pepperdine had 54 posts in it. Weekend thread where the Pilots lost two to USF and SCU? Less than half of that.
I know Ma Cahill told me many times "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" - maybe some other posters here had some mothers that gave them the same talk.

IMO, the level of activity on this site is directly proportional to the fate of Pilot teams. The "big 5" programs (men's soccer, women's soccer, baseball, women's basketball and men's basketball) are all in need of significant improvement, therefore there is not much to be excited about or want to talk about. The Athletic Department is at a critical point right now, and they certainly have their work cut out for them.

Did not even watch. I have watched 1 road game this year. I had planned to watch the first couple, but couldn't due to conflicts. After seeing poor road results again this year...really not interested in watching frustrating games we are capable of winning but don't due to ????
In the not nice things to say category:
Not convinced it's the players as inability to win on the road has been a constant during the Reveno tenure. Even in 2010-2011 on the road. Couldn't beat a very beatable Pepperdine team. Lost to a terrible LMU in the opening round of the tournament. Rev seems to be a great practice coach (exception: inbounds plays)and a horrible game coach.
Can't figure out how to get his guys motivated when they get down, especially away from home. Rarely has end game coaching success. Remind me again...up 3...foul? YES. He's chosen not to a couple times now. I mean I like the guy, but seriously....with his players I think he should do better.

I watched, but not to curry the favor of anyone on this site. Part of the problem with the Pilots offense is that they have no low post scoring. While I have seen it suggested that Barreno was emerging, any emergence on his part is strictly on the defensive end. He appears unsettled, uneasy when given the ball down low; his shots are wildly off the mark though shot from close range. The Pilots need some inside out aspects to their offense. Though Barreno has some skills, on offense Hartwich might be better.
Marshall, from what I saw of the game, seemed hesitant to shoot.
I did not detect evidence of Reveno being a poor game coach, but others may know more.
At times Pilots seemed as though they could compete but they have to make threes to beat GU. I hope the Pilots are shooting well when next they meet.

I've been a Pilot basketball fan for 15 years. I rarely post. Most of my opinions are either covered by others or I'm just too lazy. Though the number of regular contributors has declined, I'm still a nearly daily viewer and disappointed when days go by with no posts. My theory about the decline in the number of contributors is the Pilots seem to be in a perpetual rut. Every year we get our hopes up - new players, new staff, new offense, more experience, etc. The first dose of reality hits with the preseason coaches poll. We're yet again expected to finish in the lower half (this season being an exception at number five). The season starts and we usually get a couple wins in preseason or conference play to buoy our imaginations (LMU and Pepperdine this year). Then reality slaps us upside . . . . and we get on bended knees to pray we can achieve the coaches poll by season's end.
The discussion in the chatroom is often the divide between those who think it's the coach and those who say it's the players. While I'm generally in the former group, I can only imagine how tough it is to be a coach. When you're winning, we fans hang on every word you say, but when you're losing, we all know what you did wrong. The Pilots are clearly a step above the teams we had with Michael Holton, but I think we all expected some continued upward progression, especially after Reveno's first few years.
So, we're in a rut. Some of us die-hards continue to look forward to the arguments and discussion, but I suspect others have grown weary of the reruns and moved on.
By the way, went to the University of Idaho vs Warner Pacific game on Saturday. Saw Xubi (Zubizarreta) have a great game. He led all scorers with 21 points, played about 37 minutes, had a number of no-look passes, an incredible block and steal. Great to see him successful.
