Re: WCC Non-Conference Results
Just wanted to share this because it's awesome. Over in the College Football Reddit, a user has been making an imperialism map for college football. A school started out by possessing all of the counties nearest to it as it's territory. Then, every single game played was for territory: you gain another school's territory by beating them or lose your own if you lose.
Anyway, it got really popular and it seems to have spilled over to the college basketball Reddit. We started out with most of the northern part of Oregon. We won that by being closer to the geographic center of Multnomah County. Then, I guess from there we are closer to the geographic centers of all the other counties in our "territory." So, Portland State started out with nothing because of that. But, because we lost tonight, Portland State claims our territory (you can see what we used to possess in the white-ish grey area where the PSU logo is). We will likely not play game against a team for Territory until North Carolina. But, it's just a fun map game to follow.
You can see the updated map and follow the discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/7cdqia/college_basketball_imperialism_map_november_11/

Re: WCC Non-Conference Results
Almost chaos today in the WCC.
UT Arlington crushed BYU 89-75 (the gap was generally a lot bigger than what the final score suggests)
GU gets by Utah State 79-66. Utah State was neck and neck with GU at halftime but couldn't quite keep it in the second half.
Nevada handedly beat Pacific 89-74.
USD beats Norfolk State 71-62, escapes Norfolk State's 2nd half rush from a 38-16 first half.
Cal Poly edges Santa Clara 63-59.

USD beat Little Rock 66-52. They are now the only unbeaten team in the WCC besides GU or SMC. They might be the unexpected dark horse this season.

Florida holds off GU in 2OT to hand the Bulldogs their first loss 111-105.
San Diego is technically 1st by overall record and the only undefeated team left in the WCC right now.

Re: WCC Non-Conference Results
UOP beat Ark-Pine Bluff 78-69.
Florida is a really good team. GU had them beat if Melson completes the and-one with under 2 seconds in regulation. He missed. Florida traveled, and GU got the ball back with 0.7 left. Melson got an open look and missed that, too.
Perhaps calling the Gaels the favorite this year was premature, at least based on today's results.

Re: WCC Non-Conference Results
There are some strong parallels between PU's struggles and those of UP.Sound Voltex wrote:Southern Utah edges PU 88-82
In their loss to SUU, PU's Kameron Edwards scored 25 points to go along with 16 rebounds, and the team shot 52% including 7-14 beyond the arc....and as a team PU outrebounded SUU 42-29.
So why did they lose? Turnovers and free-throw shooting. PU gave up 19 points on 16 turnovers and made only 13 of 26 free-throw attempts, and of course that does not include how many more opportunities they would have had if they'd made the front-end of one-and-one attempts.
In contrast, SUU up by only 2 with a minute remaining, made of 8 of 10 free throws in that final minute to seal the deal. The one-time UP recruit that NPN mentioned recently, Jadon Cohee, the SUU leading scorer at 18.4 points/game, was held to 11 points, but led the team with 5 assists in the Thunderbirds win.
Note: According to KenPom, Pepperdine is expected to win only one WCC game, it's against UP in Malibu.
