Tryon is hurt, I guess? I see him in street clothes on the bench but they haven’t even mentioned him on the broadcast.

What was the longest scoring drought this season?  This one last 7:40 across half time.

USD credited with about 10 steals. There should be a new category call 'gifts'.

20 point loss seems about right to close the books on this dreadful season.

0-17 against WCC competition. Man oh man.

The Chiles Center is where all the competitive action and student support is this time of year....at the OSAA Tournament.

The final 8 teams from the boys and girls brackets started playing on the UP campus yesterday, and the tournament runs through Saturday.

In one of the four boys games I watched yesterday, #1 Lake Oswego (not "Lake O," but now "Lake Cho," as some call it), coached by former Pilots Director of Basketball Ops, Marshall Cho, beat #8 Oregon City to advance to he semi-final at 1:30 tomorrow (Friday) against #4 Jesuit, a winner over #5 Central Catholic yesterday.

In the other semi-final tomorrow at 3:15, #3 Jefferson plays #2 South Salem.

Not only are the games fun and the packed-house atmosphere good spirited and loud, the games are short, usually lasting between 1:15 and 1:30.

http://officials.osaa.org/activities/gbx/brackets

If you go, get there early for parking, tickets, and the security line, but be prepared for the best atmosphere and most competitive basketball you've seen in the Chiles Center this year.

Umm..technically, Gonzaga played the easiest schedule. Because they didn't have to play Gonzaga.

I've decided that the triple bye is ridiculous and if the WCC wants to go with this format, they should just bring the top 8 teams and leave out the bottom two. You could play this tournament under its current format for 100 years and I'd bet a 9 or 10 seed would win it exactly zero times. So what's the point of them being in there at all?

5/8 and 6/7 on Friday, quarterfinals Saturday, semifinals Monday, final Tuesday. Boom, done, it's no longer a six-day escapade.

Yeah, I wonder what the argument is against that? The pre-season ticket allotments/obligations? The WCC HOF ceremony?

A strong second half carried #8 PU past #5 LMU, 68-65.  PU will play their 3rd game in 3 days tomorrow against #4 USF.

In the nightcap, #7 USD stopped Tahj Eaddy and #6 SCU, 62-45, and the Toreros now must face #3 BYU for their 3rd game in 3 nights.

Actually, Jacob was dressed and ready to play, it was just a coaching decision not to put him in the game....Jacob was understandably disappointed, but understood the coaches decided that others may have made for a better matchup against USD.  Evil or Very Mad

Talked with several of the players when they got back from Las Vegas this morning, and the question on the mind of most is, "what's next," as there is a lot of uncertainty among the players as to who will return and if there will be any change in the coaching staff.

To a man, they all spoke of how "draining" the season was for them and their need for some sleep....

If Terry were going to voluntarily resign, you would think the players would know something. And, we already have some inkling of the administration's thinking on the subject: "it is not all the coach's fault" (when is it ever?). A "cool million" may be yet another significant part of the administration's reluctance to make any change, as indicated.

If Coach Porter is returning, however unpopular that may be, there is no profit in delaying the announcement. There may be a small forward waiting to hear of Porter's status.

This is speculation and could be wrong. But whatever is to happen, let's get it done.
On a somewhat related subject, agree with the notion that only the top 8 get into the tournament. If revenue demands prevent such an obvious change, then how about a mini play in for the bottom 4 starting earlier, two survive?

wrv: Completely agree with the sentiments noted above. Perhaps the only hold back on addressing the status of TP is a league moratorium (official or otherwise) of announcing "going forward" plans during the tournament. Regardless, the sooner a direction is announced the better off the program will be.

My recollection of Leycam's three points to Pilot Club members at our last home game was, (1) thanks for your loyalty; (2) men's basketball is the most important sport on the bluff; (3) it's not all the coach's fault. My hope is that number three is leadership diplomacy and number two is the prevailing priority. Whatever it is to be, I hope they announce asap.

Generally, when no changes are made, and the head coach's contract is still in force, no announcement is made.

This year might be an exception....

With no potential D1 players on the squad, #4 Jesuit came from 6 points down in the 4th quarter to beat a #3 Jefferson team with one D1 signee and at least two more potential signees, 71-66, to become Oregon State 6A Champion...

Let's hear it for the smaller, well-coached and scrappier teams! tongue

If someone were to ask, "what happened to USF" after tonight's 4th straight loss, I think part of the answer would be WCC teams learned the Dons run everything through Frankie Ferrari.

Tonight PU won for the 3rd time in 3 nights by limiting Ferrari to 4 of 16 shooting while forcing him to turn it over 6 times while the Waves dropped 14 3-pointers in their 89-72 win.

Interesting that #8 PU was the other team (besides UP) that only played #1 GU once this season due to their predicted low RPI/NET, but now the two teams faceoff on Monday night in Las Vegas.

Dave Rose could be available after this. 67-25 with 12 minutes left! insane, one of the worst showings I can remember by anyone let alone BYU.

I love the poetic justice here... GU blackmails the conference into an unfair, unbalanced schedule and a tournament format explicitly designed to prevent GU from playing lower-ranked teams.

In the first year of the new system, the 7 and 8 seeds advance to the semi-finals. I hope somehow the NET drops GU a spot just from the strength-of-schedule hit they take by playing Pepperdine.
