2019-20 Out-of-Town Scoreboard

Catching up, there were no surprises last Thursday. GU, SMC, and BYU all won.

On Saturday, BYU rushed the court after beating GU 91-78. Childs with 28 and 10.
USF edged PU at home 63-61, trying to stay out of bottom four.
SMC cruised past USF 92-63.
UOP beat SCU 87-74.

USF is now two games up on SCU for 6th place.

Some early March Madness. In addition to #2 GU losing to #23 BYU, #1 Baylor lost to #3 Kansas, and #4 San Diego St. lost for the first time to .500 UNLV on Saturday. So far today, #9 Penn St. lost to Indiana, and #7 Maryland lost to #25 Ohio St.

GU waxed USD 94-59 in Spokane.
UOP won at LMU 60-53.
SMC struggled at SCU but won 78-72.

On the final night,
GU took control in eh 2nd half and beat SMC 86-76
BYU, down 3 at half, got a big 2nd half from Childs and beat PU 81-64
SMC won at LMU in a tight game, 69-67
UOP topped USD 71-64

Final Standings
GU 15-1
BYU 13-3
SMC 11-5
UOP 11-5 I believe SMC has the tiebreaker with a win over BYU
USF 9-7
PU 8-8
SCU 6-10
LMU 4-12
USD 2-14
UP 1-15

The P5 conferences have cancelled their tournaments.

As of this coming Monday all face-to-face instruction at the University of Portland will end and the transition to online instruction will begin.

All students living in the dorms are encouraged to return to their permanent addresses, but for those who cannot, the dorms and foods service will remain open.

All events that attract large crowds are canceled.  If the OSAA decides to continue their 6A Tournament in the Chiles Center it will have to be without fans in attendance.

For now, the University campus remains open and will operate under a normal schedule for faculty and staff, including business functions and employee working hours.

Tough times for all...

March Madness is now officially cancelled. If the team that wins the last game of the season is the National Champion, that means the Washington State Cougars can cut down the nets!

Now Portland has cancelled all sports activities/events.

Lots of unanswered questions amongst the turmoil and chaos of canceling basketball and all the spring-sports...and the eligibility question is one of them.

It would seem the NCAA is leaning toward allowing another year of eligibility to spring-sport athletes, but if they do, they will also have to increase the number of scholarships allowed in each of the sports because most schools have already signed incoming student-athletes who would normally be taking the outgoing senior's scholarships.

I'm not aware of any movement on behalf of the NCAA to give basketball players another year...although I'm sure Isaiah and the Pilots would love to have him come back for an injury free year while he finishes his MBA.
