Santa Clara too scared to come play their rescheduled game on Monday now and apparently is allowed to cancel for no better reason than we saw you just beat SF.

Santa Clara was the best team in the four game home stand. In the games Vrankic has played they have looked like a borderline tournament team. They were 4-4 in games he missed late Nov. and early Dec., and 13-4 in the games he's played.

Hope we can "pay them back" in the final game of the season down there.

Before Vrankic was out there was early talk of 5 bids. Had they win those games where he was out it would have made the bus of the other teams more solid as well.

Let’s recap here. So Portland bends over backwards to accommodate the Gonzaga USF game a couple weeks back.

In return, the WCC allows both BYU and SCU to not travel to Portland to play their scheduled games. Pilots will now have 6 WCC home games and 8 away games. Someone make this make sense for me.

This was completely predictable when the conference announced it would use the net ranking to seed the conference tournament in the event the schedules were uneven for COVID reasons. Schools will now game the schedule to insure that.

It’s the first time I can remember that out of conference results had anything to do with conference standings.

And it’s somewhat strange that a team can refuse to play another conference team for reasons other than COVID and not forfeit.

Meanwhile Bushnell may not be much of a test. No, it's not the optics company team, Bushnell (formerly Northwest Christian) is an NAIA school in Eugene with fewer than 400 undergraduates. They are currently 8-17.

From the WCC’s announcement last year they would use Pomeroy’s adjusted WP formula:

Pomeroy created a formula that provides an “adjusted winning percentage.” It takes into account strength of schedule and road vs. home — all within conference play only — but does not factor in the offensive or defensive efficiency ratings included in his popular KenPom.com rankings. Margin of victory is not part of the equation.

This is garbage. The season finale against SCU needs to be at Chiles. Also, the Pilots should absolutely not have scheduled that naia game. Nothing to gain.

First off, I have to admit thinking the Pilots had scheduled Bucknell on short notice. I was impressed at first before figuring it out.

I was of the same mind as you about the NAIA game but I think I've changed my opinion since. It's an opportunity for Harvey, Vucinic, Svetozarevic, and Milosevic to get in some minutes in a game situation. All four are freshman, none really play more than a handful of minutes every game. I'm sure they will appreciate the minutes, the staff would like to give them an opportunity, and playing another D1 game was probably not only not an option, but not smart on the Pilots' part in the midst of WCC play.

I don't like the non-D1 games as much as the next guy, but in this particular case I'm fine with it.

Technically it's a no-contest. Referees need to declare a forfeit. No game, so no refs were present.

NCAA Basketball Rulebook Rule 5, Sec. 3, Article 7:

Art. 7. A “no contest” is when a team does not appear at the game site because
of inclement weather, an accident, vehicle breakdown, illness or catastrophic
cause. An institution shall not, for statistical purposes, declare a forfeit for nonfulfillment of a contract, but rather shall declare a “no contest.” When officials
are not present or available to officiate, there cannot be a sanctioned game/

Sounds like we can hire officials to show up and declare a forfeit.
