OSU reportedly has a coach
Jeff Goodman says it's Craig Robinson from Brown. Fox Sports has an interesting headline:

I just hope he can win some games.

Actually, I don't. Most especially when they are playing the Pilots. But I think it is important to try and obtain more local players for UP, to help increase local interest. And a revived program at OS(U) is more competition for local players. We may not be competing with the likes of UCLA (or even Oregon) for players, but we should be a viable alternative to a program like Oregon State. We are both near the bottom of our respective conferences, and I hope that UP will improve enough to regularly via for a place in the "top two" of the four D-1 programs in this state.

This coaching search proved to many that OSU Hoops has hit bottom.

Interesting...
Take a risk on a guy who has been a Head Coach for 2 years with modest success in the Ivy League & east coast vs. Ken Bone, who has had success in the Big Sky & west coast... I think I would have gone with Bone (Even though I think his stock will be much more valuable with another year under his belt to prove he really can coach and recruit)...
This hire fails the "media splash" test; we will see how it plays out on the court... but the Beaver fans do not seem too excited about him, and I cant say I blame them, based upon the way DeCarolis was talking up the process before Bennett & Grier shot them down...
A lot of good the $75k they spent on the search firm was, too! I dont think he was on "the list"!

EDIT: win games except when they play the Pilots. I forgot that part.
And he certainly wasn't on my list. It doesn't say much for their program that two WCC guys would rather stay at their current jobs than take on the OSU rebuilding project.

New OSU Basketball Coach
I, for one, wish Robinson and the Beavers nothing but the best. It would be a great national story if he could lead the Beavers out of the woods and into the Promised Land that is Pac-10 basketball competitiveness.
