U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
24 player roster named
Well, my concerns about DiCicco's sanity have been abated. Keelin Winters, Elli Reed and Michelle Enyeart are all on there. The team will be training in Elli's hometown of Park City, Utah.
This does bring up the concern of players not being around during the college season. But maybe it's just another year for the freshmen to step up again.

Re: U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
Great, ugh! Reading the article, it sounds like Enyeart and Winters are likely going to be on the team. Reed sounds more doubtful, although I'll be she's in too, as an outside defender. North Carolina has four on the squad (McDonald is transferring to UNC) and Stanford has two. If the three make it, at least it promises a great year next year! It also may explain why the Pilots are very anxious to have the incoming freshmen here for the entire summer.

U20 Qualifying roster
All three Pilots (Enyeart, Reed, Winters) made the 20-man roster. Way to go, gals!

Re: U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
The Pilots, with three players, and North Carolina, with four, are the big winners/losers(?). No other team has more than one player on the squad, which probably is a pretty close to what we should expect for the U-20 World Cup team. Fortunately/unfortunately(?), one of the other teams is Washington State, which loses forward Kiersten Dahlstream. That probably significantly reduces their chances of qualifying for the NCAA tournament, thus increasing the likelihood of the Pilots once again traveling for tournament rounds 1 and 2, assuming they qualify.
U20 Roster: 3 UP, 3 UNC
Just a nit. Evidently one of the four UNC did not make the final cut. So we are equal losers with UNC: we each have three very good young players on the team.

Actually, Jessica McDonald, who the U-20 roster lists as from Phoenix College, is a UNC transfer. She's the fourth. (My guess is that she did previously did not meet UNC's academic requirements.)

Re: U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
From USSoccer's MatchTracker: USA 4, TRI 0. Michelle played the whole match and scored a hat trick! Keelin started and was replaced at midfield by G. DiMartino. Elli did not play. Awesome start for Michelle, but who around here is surprised?

Michelle's Hat Trick!!
Right on, SoreKnees! U20's 4-0 and Michelle scores three!!!
She is a monster. We've just got to get her back in the line-up, (hopefully for part of 2008), and start feedin' more balls to her. I just feel like we might have a young Christine-type player to lead us to our third trophy by her senior year - 2009, unles she redshirts this season.
(I realize Megan has this potential, as well.)

Re: U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
nice start to the qualifiers. Unmentioned is that Keelin got the assist on Enyeart's second tally. Apparently she made a nice feed that split the defense and left Michelle alone with the keeper.

Re: U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
Against Mexico in the Group A finals, Enyeart scored one of the US's goals in a 3-0 win. Winters assisted on another of the goals. It started raining in the 60th minute, and Michelle's goal came in the 67th. Here's the US Soccer description of her goal:
"[A]s the skies really opened up, Enyeart broke through for her tournament-leading sixth goal in three games. She tracked back to win the ball in the midfield and went on a 40-yard run at goal. The speedy forward ran by two defenders and cut around a third before slotting it past [goalkeeper] Venegas to double the USA’s lead."
Sound familiar?
Elli did not play for the second straight game, listed as "Not Available." That sounds like an injury to me. Michelle and Keelin played the entire game.

Re: U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
I had the same thought. It reminded me a lot of "the Goal".
I think Ellie can only be used if an injury depletes the roster. Perhaps a perusal of the CONCACAF tournament rules would clarify that.

Re: U20 CONCACAF qualifying camp
Purplegeezer, you may be right. It appears that the roster available to play is limited to 18 , at least the identified roster for each game included 18 players. What I noticed was that Elli was on the roster for the first game against Trinidad & Tobago, but did not play. For the next two games, against Cuba and Mexico, she was listed as "Not Available." (Fowlkes was listed as the other Not Available player for Cuba; and DeMartino for Mexico.) Maybe someone actually knows what happened? If she's really occupying the #19 or 20 spots, maybe she'll be playing for the Pilots this year? Or is her not playing in the U-20 games only temporary?
