Pooh Playing in the Summer League
Looks like he's on the roster with Minnesota:
http://www.startribune.com/sports/wolves/22933554.html?location_refer=Timberwolves
Some pretty good players on that team... Kevin Love, Corey Brewer, Drew Neitzel, Bryce Taylor, Longar Longar, and Pooh.
Minnesota actually might be a place where Pooh can stick. Sebastian Telfair is the only true PG on the roster, though Randy Foye can handle the point too. But usually teams like to have three PGs on the roster and the T-Wolves could definitely use another true point guard... seems to me that it could be a great opportunity for Pooh. Good luck!

Re: Pooh Playing in the Summer League
And from what I've read... Telfair could be going elsewhere... Miami has interest in him... seeing that they have zero true PGs tis a possibility...
I'm just pissed I can't make it to Summer League this year, it was fun seeing Pooh in action last year.... Not to mention he was definitely one of the top players on the court whenever he played... My question is how does a guy like Chris Quinn (No offense Irish fans...) get a starting spot in the NBA while Pooh can't even get a roster spot?? Somehow I think a guy with a 3-1 A/T ratio, 85% FT, 40% FG PG capable of pesky D deserves a shot... And no its not just because I love the guy...

Re: Pooh Playing in the Summer League
Totally agreed. I think the biggest obstacle for Pooh is his height. No matter how well he plays and what kinds of numbers he puts up, NBA executives will always say, "Yeah... but he's 5'10""
Which, of course, is totally stupid. A lot of research has come out lately that shows height being way over-rated in terms of performance and production. And, hate to say it, but his age is probably starting to be an issue too... he's probably 25 now. It's just that scouts and execs fetishize the tall, springy, young guys... even when a proven performer like Pooh is out there and hungry for a shot.
I just hope beyond hope that someone will finally give him his shot. It would be such a shame if he never had the chance to show what he can do. I know that if he were to get a roster spot, he would put all the work in and do everything he possibly could to make himself a valuable member of the team.

Most definitely.... While I'm happy he is able to bring in some good money playing ball in Europe, I would love to see him the NBA dream. And his work ethic, and always grinning attitude would definitely be an asset to any NBA locker room (Oh and btw he's not 25 til December....)

Re: Pooh Playing in the Summer League
Pooh played in his first game tonight and did pretty well. 9 points and 5 assists in 25 minutes, 4-6 from the floor and he started. Interestingly, he played a lot more minutes than Drew Neitzel, the former Michigan State PG and the other PG on the team.
Here's a link to the box score:

Good luck Pooh! Keep it up!

Re: Pooh Playing in the Summer League
Hey guys... thought it would be fun to check out the message boards for the T-Wolves to read reactions on Pooh's game. And I wasn't disappointed! The first few posts were from one of the moderators of the RealGM board who apparantly has travelled with the team and has talked with Minnesota's staff (though, of course, you never know with message board stuff) and the rest are mainly just fan posts during/after the game.
Some pretty fun stuff... I hope Pooh keeps on impressing them!

Just finished up at the Orlando Summer League, and I get on plane to Vegas tomorrow morning. I'll try and find the time to post some recaps on here of the Minnesota guys. Again, I really really like Pooh Jeter, maybe even more than my boy Ahearn. Kevin Martin called Jeter the best point he's ever played with. He's very undersized, but a very good passer and automatic from inside 20 feet. He loves to get out in transition, and knows how to involve everyone. I have some friends in the NBA now who saw Jeter while working in the D-League, and they all think he has what it takes at the NBA level. I give the Wolves front office a lot of credit for landing him this summer.
* * *
Talked to a couple members of the Wolves front office here in Vegas today. As I expected, they said Pooh Jeter has looked awesome in the practices and will be starting for the team.
* * *
Jeter is a much better player than Neitzel.
* * *
I REALLY like Pooh Jeter.
* * *
POOOOHHH!!!
* * *
Pooh Jeter's game is impressive too, quick quick guy.
* * *
Players I liked
Pooh Jeter 9 pts, 4-6 FG, 5 assists
* * *
I also see a lot of potential in Pooh Jeter. He's a pure point in my opinion and fast as hell.

Re: Pooh Playing in the Summer League
Great second game for Pooh! 15 points on 6-9 shooting, 3 assists, 1 steal, 0 turnovers:
http://www.nba.com/summerleague2008/games/boxscore.jsp?gameId=1520800027
I checked in on the box score with about 6 minutes to go in the game, and Pooh had 8 points. But then he did this:
91-86 LAL
58 seconds left: Made lay-up (and was fouled)
58 seconds left: Made free throw
91-89 LAL
Jump shot LAL
93-89 LAL
25 seconds left: Made lay-up (and was fouled)
25 seconds left: Made free throw
25 seconds left: Made free throw (on a technical foul)
93-93 game tied
Damn! Two and-ones in the last minute, plus making the technical shot? What a way to end the game!
Keep it up Pooh!

No worries, St Vincent is one of our guys, isn't he?
When he makes the squad I'm sure they'll get it right.

Yes Stonehouse, it really is. Well maybe the second best right after $25 Tecate kegs.

Oh snap! Nothing could ever match those $25 Tecate kegs. Best dock sale ever.
In other news... Minnesota is playing the Blazers tonight, which means that you can watch our boy Pooh on Comcast Ch. 37 starting at 7:00 PM!!!! And not only Pooh, but Kevin Love and Bryce Taylor as well. It's like a great big Oregon fest this game.
