PilotNation Hall of Fame?

I like it. (The idea.)

How would you determine who gets in, fairly? XX number of posts? Combine posts and topics started? Mimimum number of months/years to be qualified? Once eligible, a vote of all PN members could be taken with perhaps 75% positive to get in? Once eligible you can be voted on future tallies if you don't get in first time? (By having members vote on qualified candidates, it would allow the members to screen out those who they don't like, or vote in members they do like. General popularity should count for something, after mimimum qualifications are met.)

Admins could decide on criteria to become qualified. Members then determine HOF picks by a popular vote of 75%.

The original HOF members could be all three admins and anyone else who was instrumental in bringing this baby to life.

As far as a player HOF, they could be noninated by any member. Then maybe some testimonials by folks who saw them play. (A whole lot of members aren't going to know players from years back.) Then a bunch of vetted names are put in a poll, and PN members vote to a certain % who they want in their HOF.

One important note: It should not be easy to get into any HOF. However, if the bar is too high, then why have a HOF?

So wait.... There is a vote of the general population and if you don't get 75% approval for 15 votes it goes to the veterans committee?? (sounds familiar...)

I anticipate myself the Jim Rice of HOF candidates... I can only hope a Susan Lucci style eventual win way down the road that will involve aggressive bribary of the VC

The heck with the HOF. I was just rambling for something to do because the posting is so slow right now. If I've ruined your "haha", then I am going to be real upset with myself.

I did the same thing innocently with Geezer's "Woo Hoo" several months ago and he stopped using it. I loved it when he said that. It meant he had some great Pilots news for us.

I thought your intro was like a purposeful way to help you differentiate from the masses. But my judgement is wacky sometimes. Please believe me. FAN

Hee hee! Oh FAN you need not fret, I just hadn't realized how frequently "haha" had been used as a preface... My inner English nerd shook its head at the realization that my vernacular had become THAT predictable. I generally laugh at myself and find really random things funny...you should hear "54" and I when we get together, tis pretty much a laugh riot with about 5% of things we say actually worth laughing about... Then again that could also have something to do with our affinity to high ABV microbrews...

And trust me your judgement is no more goofy than mine... I just got giddily excited because my brother got me a pair of all gold basketball shoes today (OMG they are sweet.... And won't be available to the public for months!!! I'm saving them for the next time I play at the Blazers PF ), something most people would probably gag upon receiving....

But back to the HOF....

I would have to say nominations for different categories:
Best Post (Informative)
Best Post (Comedic)
Best Post (Total Burn of the Zags)
Best Link (Informative, but not original content)
Informative Excellence (for consistent quantitative high level posting)
Informative Excellence (for consistent qualitative high level posting)
Artistic Excellence (For writing)
Artistic Excellence (For photography)
Rochin54 Bust of Shame (For behavingly consistently like an out of towner and publically revealing it on the forum)

And just because he his the pulse of Pilot Nation....
The Geez Circle of Honor (for anyone or anything The Geez dictates worthy)

You know... I originally got the idea from another board I post in... a tech dork forum. In that forum all posters with 15 or more posts have the ability to "applaud" the poster.

"This applaud" is tallied as a kudo, thus those like geezer would have hundreds of kudos beside his tag, and is recognized as being someone that even new posters can look at and say wow that guy has been seriously informative over a long period of time to get that much karma...


Now I am not saying the admins bust their hump to copy an idea like that as I am not sure phpbb supports it, but something like that. perhaps a stickied thread that any user can nominate a post or poster for consideration at the sole discretion of the admins... or perhaps a comittee of longtime posters.


Anyways recognition of peoples hard work should be recognized, because we do have a number of people here who go above and beyond to bring us info.

I like the HOF idea, but we must be careful that we do not cheapen it by inducting too much too soon. It's like expanding the field of 64 (now 65) for the NCAA basketball tourney: why make it easier for mediocre to creep into a thing of beauty?

I agree 54. No matter which way we decide to go about it, we shouldn't start with too many HOF's.

The forum itself is only about 1 1/2 years old, so this whole thing is rather young in the big picture.

I think you start with the folks who got this baby off the ground. Made this whole discussion possible.

Ya know, I just had a thought. Rochin's idea reminds me of a once a year Academy Awards type of arrangement. You know - with "Best of this" and "Best of that" categories that celebrate all the various talents and contributions of members.

This would be in addition to a HOF. Two separate ways to celebrate PN outstanding members and their achievements.

I like the annual awards idea.

Best avatar, best (worst?) rant, best analysis, etc...

Perhaps maybe an anual induction in to the Hall of Fame? How and where can we keep a hall of fame? How would we do an awards ceremony? Keep the ideas flowing.

We also might want to have somebody take the reigns on this. Any takers?

I threw out the initial idea, but I think that the idea has outgrown my abilities... I would be more than happy to assist in any implementation though.

I think a General forum sticky, and maybe something on the front page... thoughts?

Also, any award winner could maybe have some designation under their avatar?

I like the designation idea.

We could set up a seperate forum category as the Hall of Fame, and then move posts/threads to that category upon their induction and honor!

Possible designation for annual award winners under the avatar for a year, until the next year's awards come out.

Well I suppose any decent ointment salesman probably goes door to door... Which logically would probably make him difficult to track down due to the nomadic lifestyle

Well, you've got to give credit where credit is due!

You've got to give it up to the true, hardcore soccer fans... I mean, I love soccer and I love my Pilots, but you and your buddies take it to a totally different level. And as much as I might wish this board would give a little more love to basketball (what can I say, Pilot hoops is what I live and breath), it's so awesome to have such passionate soccer fans.

Agreed. That's why I love this forum.

"fan from afar", a new member, noted in his first post that we were "seriously obsessed"! And that's why he joined. I tend to become obsessed when I'm really into something. After attempting, unsuccessfully, to read thru the hundreds of posts from the last few days, I've come to conclude I ain't the only one who's obsessed with the Women's Soccer team on this board!

I swear I have posted more this week than ever before... obsessed.
