Re: Selection Show Thread
Pilots #2 in Stanford pod. Home this weekend against N Arizona, then winner plays winner of Wash State v Texas. Winner of all that plays winner of Wake Forest pod. So Pilots play Wake at Merlo if seeds play out. Then QF at Stanford is seeds win out.

I'm not worried. Stanford has never gotten past round 3. They only got that far once.

That must have been 2002, when we beat them on kicks from the mark on the way to the Championship?

UPSoccerFanatic wrote:If the Committee places the seeds in the bracket following traditional bracket formation rules, then I see the order the Committee will follow in each of the four groups as (with the #1s being the most questionable):
1.1 UCLA
1.2 Portland
1.3 Notre Dame
1.4 North Carolina
2.1 Stanford
2.2 Florida
2.3 Virginia
2.4 Florida State
3.1 Boston College
3.2 Penn State
3.3 Duke
3.4 Oklahoma State
4.1 USC
4.2 Texas A&M
4.3 Washington
4.4 Missouri
So it looks like Penn State got the hose job... but other than that, UPSF... you are a genius. 14 of the 16 seeds right, and most of them in their correct slot as well. Kudos, my man!

It may be a blessing in disguise UCLA and North Carolina are on the other side.

I think you're right, AP. Notre Dame is undefeated, untied, and untested. Stanford has a history of losing early in the tournament with highly ranked squads. It's certainly not an impossible task, though it would surely be easier with our departed stars.

Honestly, I think we'd be the prohibitive favorites with them. I really do.

Notice, though, that Stanford is the only highly ranked team with no players going to the U-20s. Even Kelly O'Hara, who was one of the leading scorers in qualifying, is not going to Chile.

Chile is spilt milk people come on. We have a great team, we have the first games at Merlo. Our bracket is good. We can and will step up. This is the playoffs.

Re: Selection Show Thread
Wellll, that's not entirely true. They did beat Portland in the 1993 Tournament to advance to the Final Four (on penalties, I think). I think the tournament was only at 16 teams then, maybe 12. I can't remember. So I'm not sure what round it was. But Portland did get revenge in 1994 and beat them on penalties to get into the Final Four we hosted that year. And Stanford have been to the 3rd round the last two seasons, losing to Connecticut last year 2-0 and Clemson the year before in a shootout.I'm not worried. Stanford has never gotten past round 3. They only got that far once.

KFTC,
you are clearly way too bogged down with facts. This is tournament time! No objectivity allowed.
Didn't you get the memo?

Re: Selection Show Thread
We'll see one of the strongest defensive tandems at Merlo with Texas. Kasey Moore (Kristen's sister) and Stephanie Logterman are both seniors....who bring a ton of national team experience. They'll be a tough pair to beat! It'll be a battle and a very interesting match if we meet up with them!

Kristen Moore!
Kasey gets a cheer during the intro's (at least during the Texas game) just for being Kristen's sister....
Stephanie Logterman played a ton of YNT games next to our steph.

Re: Selection Show Thread
My intuition says we should not assume we will be playing Texas on Sunday, assuming we handle Northern Arizona on Friday. I've been watching WSU, and I think they're much better than people think. Remember, the Central Region's teams are over-rated and the West Region's teams are under-rated.
For stat purposes:
Texas is 12-3-4. Goals for 29; goals against 12.
WSU is 10-5-5. Goals for 25; goals against 19.

What?!? There was a memo? Dammit! I knew my new mailman looked shady. Okay, well then I rescind my previous statement. Stanford are the Losey McLosersons of the West Coast who play in a stadium with a dumb name.
Is that better?
