Oregonian Article on Stanford Game
This article confirms what I saw at the game. Their goal came off a redirect of the ball due to a deflection. I wasn't sure until now.

Re: Oregonian Article on Stanford Game
Thanks Auto. On the videocast, I really couldn't tell what happened, only that the ball was in the back of the net.
The goal came from a very sharp angle and I couldn't see if Kelsey just missed it or what.
Does anyone think it was a lucky shot off a deflection, or should Kelsey have gotten her paw on it???

Re: Oregonian Article on Stanford Game
Based on what Kelsey said in the interview she seemed to be seeing the ball the whole way. When it "took a turn for the near post" there was too much pace on the ball for her to react. They reported the shot coming from the six yard line which is basically point blank. Saving a point blank shot off a deflection is not an easy task for a GK usually there is a bit of luck involved.
Should have she gotten a hand on it? Good question. Only someone who was standing down there could answer. I was in the seats and could only see the play from the side. However this is a
Even if the save had been made I doubt the pilots would have survived the OTs. They were quite exhausted by the end of the game. Now if Sophie's header had gone in instead of the crossbar or if Charney's shot off the rebound had gone in it might have energized the ladies to tough out the win. One could speculate endlessly I guess.

Re: Oregonian Article on Stanford Game
Kelsey has proven herself brilliant in big games for two consecutive years. I don't think too many keepers could have stopped that goal.
The deflection probably caused the ball to change direction at the last millisecond. Plus, if it had great pace on it from point blank, I say Press scores with a little help from a teammate's body.
And I agree that we were too exhausted and Stanford just too good in the 2nd half. Although there's always a chance the ball will roll your way in a close game.
The better team won. I don't blame Kelsey for the loss. Great experience for our many underclassmen. They're all battle-tested for next year's crusade!
