I just noticed that the official website now has a mobile version. As long as you can switch to the full version , that's great.

Now we just need public wifi in the chiles center and Merlo, and we are all set.

I totally agree, although I now get 3G on my phone at Merlo... but still would rather have Wifi.

Yeah, what would be really, really high tech would be to go to a live game and have GameTracker going at the same time so that you could get the official word that TJ had delivered a rainbow three 5 minutes after it really happened once your little machine refreshed...

That reminds me of something I have been meaning to get off my chest: I dont like the lack of general information at the basketball games this year... there aren't "stat boards" in Chiles Center, the box scores are not widely available at half time, stats arent announced at haltime (like they used to be), and they rarely announce any other scores--we are lucky to get the women's score.

Whew, I feel better. sorry for venting. Smile I mean we do have our personal statisticians in the PN 1K Poster Club.... Wink

That's too bad - I always appreciated when they announced the stats at halftime. They even do that at Division III games.

Being in the chatbox at the games would be sweet.

The stats are announced at the women's games. And you would think they could afford some stat boards. It's not like we're asking for Rose Garden style HD screens, not that I would complain...

I'm actually not a big fan of the stat boards at games. To me, it seems so individualistic. I guess I don't really care what anyone's stats are during the game, I care that we're winning! Now, I like to look at the stats after games to get a better picture of what happened, so I definitely think they are useful. I would be in favor of at least announcing some stats at halftime and after the game, and maybe having the box available at the Pilot Club at the half??

Do they still hand out the halftime box scores to press row? I seem to remember it not being too difficult to grab one of those and bring it in to the P-Club, where I could peruse it while enjoying a refreshing Widmer Hefeweizen.

I agree with Rochin54's sentiments. When I am at a game I don't necessarily like to watch the statboard. I like to watch the game and make my own observations then confirm/deny them after the game looking at the box.

Fortunately the people who sit in front of me keep their own stats, so I can kind of look over their shoulder to see how many points different guys have scored, etc... But it would be nice to know, at least at halftime, who the leading scorers are... maybe a stat board like the one at the Rose Garden with the "Hustle Points"... just team stats, not individuals.

I like the stat boards that list all 5 players currently on the court, with the number of points and fouls... I just like to know who has 4 fouls and who has 3, etc... my pea brain cant remember those details 10 seconds after it is flashed on the overhead scoreboard... Neutral

Something would be Nice. We keep score on the sheets that you get with the $1 game sheet, but knowing things like rebounds and assists would be really nice (or figuring out who's foul you missed). Plus with a 1 year old at the game, it is hard to always keep up.

Just throwing this out there... are we sure they don't announce the stats at halftime? I (and I assume many of the posters here) head to the P-Club for halftime and sometimes it's hard to hear when the game starts up again, let alone if they announce half-time stats.

I remember a few years ago there was talk of upgrading the main scoreboard, but the price was prohibitive then and I assume given the economy it's not really an option at this point. Perhaps if a donor stepped up they could get it done, but if not... I wouldn't hold our collective breath. They have done a lot of work on the Chiles Center in the past few years (painting the dome, painting the walls (in the hallways and the walls behind the hoops), new signage, upgrading the display cases)... improvements come in phases and considering we just went through a phase I wouldn't expect anything soon.

Having said that, I do like the idea of perhaps setting up a very easy-to-access Game Tracker type display for people's phones. I'm stone age so I don't have data on my phone, but if this new PortlandPilots mobile thing works for people, that seems like a nice little compromise for the time being.

That's funny, I was actually kidding when I said that I wanted GameTracker available at the games. But, I agree with PGeezer that knowing the scores of the other teams would be nice. It would be kind of cool to be able to have a page similar to the personalized ones of Yahoo sports where you could have several WCC scores going at once about a few teams that you were interested in. Honestly, though if I'm at a game I'm too into it to text or chat too much until half time...and even then, I'm probably seeking out a hot dog and a beverage.

I don't recall them announcing stats at men's games this year. If there's an announcement, we wait until it's done before we start playing again. Here's a tip: when you hear us playing there's about 5 minutes left of halftime.

I get my refreshments delivered straight to my seat--no lines to deal with. Wink
