up7587 wrote:Back to Weis. Close, but no cigar! The wonderqb missed his receiver in the last second, letting Cheatey Petey and his band of undisciplined players (ridiculous penalties in the final minutes) get out with another win. So, I guess Charlie has to go undefeated the rest of the year to keep the folks out for his head at bay.
Are you including the Taylor Mays "late hit" on the player still in bounds. My favorite part about that call was that Joe McKnight got tackled about ten seconds after going out of bounds after his long in the first quarter and Tom Hammonds was like "Well, I guess they could call a penalty if they wanted, maybe, but they shouldn't because it's Notre Dame and they don't cheat." Then later on Taylor Mays' "late hit" Hammonds and the other homer, I mean the color guy, were adamant that the call on Mays was the right call and it was very late.
Oh and another thing, I thought that the "defenseless receiver" was supposed to be called when the receiver did not have the ball and had no shot to catch it, not when you were tackling a receiver after he caught a pass.
Now I remember why I haven't watched a Notre Dame game in probably 5 years. 1) Tom "Homer" Hammonds 2) Jimmy Clausen is a whiny something or other, seriously everytime they showed a close-up of him he was whining to the officials about something.
Well, I guess I will weigh in again next time I watch a Notre Dame game...I don't expect it to be before 2013.

Yeah, I saw that and thought it was a very odd call.mattywizz wrote:Oh and another thing, I thought that the "defenseless receiver" was supposed to be called when the receiver did not have the ball and had no shot to catch it, not when you were tackling a receiver after he caught a pass.
NBC does stand for Notredame Broadcasting Company.mattywizz wrote:Now I remember why I haven't watched a Notre Dame game in probably 5 years. 1) Tom "Homer" Hammonds

For all future broadcasts I would like to request that they use a low definition camera for all shots of Charlie Weis.... I'm worried how much of his ugly mug the poor television can take...

Not as bad as having to see Mangino on TV every week.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
If Charlie Weiss pull's those pants up any higher than going to cover his face, which would be kinda benefical next time they give me a close up on the Plasma Big Screen.
That poor guy, at least the other members of the ugly crew.....Mike Ditka and Art Shell had excuse's for their odd and homely comely appearence's. They could play the game. Nothing worse than a weak coach, especially if he had no experience in D'1 sports or the pro's.
That's why down the road I think Rev (if he stay's at UP) will have an advantage over everyone in WCC except RW and USF. He was a winner as a player, and with his coaching talents I believe the Kids look at that. Would I rather play for a midget in a small town who's never been there , and just flames out every year in the NCAA's or someone who's been there, done that, young coach in a large culturally diverse city with a rising program that I can contribute to right away??? Not a difficult choice to me if I'm one of the best guards in the country like the Sham man.
I am crossing my fingers for early sighning day, . I believe he will be the next step for UP to reach a higher level of LONG-TERM competiveness with the likes of the Huskie's,Duck's,Bruins, Butler's, Golden Gophers of college basketball. not to mention the farm team to the north.

Did anyone see that piece about Mark Herzlich (sp?) (The BC LB who is fighting cancer) and Charlie Weis? So apparently Weis can't coach football very well, but he can cure cancer. Maybe ND should transfer him to their medical dept., if they have one.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
ND loses to Navy for the second time in Charlie's tenure. Ty didn't lose to Navy. Gerry Faust didn't lose to Navy. Bob Davie didn't lose to Navy. Nail in the coffin?
Suddenly the Stanford game doesn't look so easy. Pitt is a one-loss team. And UConn is playing well. Does ND lose three more?

The Irish barely beat the Huskies. And it's hard to see them winning all three of those final games. If they lose one they finish 8-4. I don't think that's what the Irish faithful were looking for this year. Who gave Charlie that big contract extension anyway?

Re: Soooo....Weis?
To be honest, I don't really care about Notre Dame... I tend to root against them because I see them as partially representative of all I dislike about college football: the ridiculous role of money (not a member of a conference, exclusive TV contract), the extreme over-reliance on polls (no team gets more credit for program history than ND), and the BCS (ND is elligible when other schools won't be, and if they do just sneak in they will always be picked over more deserving teams).
For this season, it's no surprise to me. Notre Dame hasn't been that good for the past few seasons... why did people all the sudden expect them to be a Top-10 type team? Mainly it was because they had a weak schedule, not because they were actually a deserving Top-10 team. Sorry, but having a weak schedule is not a good basis for expecting to be in the BCS converstaion. Having Top-10 talent is. Big difference.
And really... any time that ND has played a decent team this year it's been close, and most of those games have been at home:
@Michgan: L, 38-34
Michgan State: W, 33-30
@Purdue: W, 24-21
Washington: W, 37-30 (OT)
USC: L, 34-27
Boston College: W, 20-16
Navy: L, 23-21
Those aren't the results of a team that should be in the BCS converstaion. But they are the results of a solid team. The problem is that Notre Dame's fans have ridiculous expectations, and the media kept droning on about how weak their schedule is.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Stoney, come on, CFB is so much fun. The fan intensity and emotional highs and lows are amazing. Just today there are fan forums melting down all over the country. Not just ND, check out Michigan and Oklahoma. Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Penn State are in sour moods. Ask FSUFan how the folks are feeling down there about their CFB team. UW is not too happy either. Conversely Baylor, Navy and Nebraska are grinning. I enjoy the entire spectacle. Even when I get too caught up in the local teams.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Oh I enjoy college football, don't get me wrong.
I just think the whole system is seriously, seriously flawed. And I do feel like my interest in it is starting to wane a bit as I know that teams like Cincinatti, TCU, and Boise State are going to get screwed once again. Just bothers me and I can't really get over it.
And yeah... I guess by decent I meant has won at least a few games.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Will the next ND coach be from this list?
Paul Johnson of GA Tech: winner at Navy and GT, runs a triple option.
Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern: succeeding at a school with high academics.
Jim Harbaugh of Stanford: a Michigan man who dissed their academics, with a hard-nosed offense approach.
Jon Gruden: out of work pro coach and Super Bowl winner.
Brian Kelly of Cincinnati: current hot coach du jour.
Urban Meyer: fantasy dream of Irish fans; would be crazy to leave FL.
Les Miles of LSU: looking at having to beat Sabin and Meyer every year.
Chris Peterson of Boise St.: having great success but no where to go.
Gary Patterson of TCU: another highly successful coach at a non-BCS school.
Kirk Ferentz of Iowa: one-time hot coach who was found new success.
What are the odds on each of these gents? Who else should be in the pool?
