Re: Soooo....Weis?
You know who I think Notre Dame should look at? Mike Riley. The guy is a proven winner at the college level (not that many former pro coaches succeed in college... it's a totally different animal with the recruiting and all that), is a really good guy, and isn't paid particularly well. He wins his bowl games, he gets a ton out of his talent, and no one does more with less.
Sure there are sexier names out there, but if Notre Dame could do a lot worse than Riley. I'm amazed no big program has gone after him yet.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Agreed with the sentiments...
I think as long as ND solely goes after the "name" coach, they are going to have nothing but disappointment. Why not get a slightly less hyped (but still as talented), and use the salary difference to pay for more team Calculus tutors.

I don't think anyone has gone after Riley because it's a waste of time. I think he likes where he is and fans here like having him.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Another couple names there is "chatter" about are Bob Stoops and Nick Saban. I think the top level of coaches people want includes Gruden, Stoops, Meyer, and Saban. Next comes your Brian Kelly's of the world. I have heard people suggest both Mike Riley and Chip Kelly, but not often.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
I didn't list Saban because I assumed he has no reason to leave Alabama; just as much tradition as ND (Bear = Rockne), heart of good recruiting country, rabid fan base, unlimited resources.
Stoops just doesn't seem like a ND kind of guy .
Mike Riley would be the anti-Weis. But ND wants to win in September, too, not just at the end of the season.

Jon Gruden: Staying at ESPN, meaning the especially delusional faction of ND fans will now move on to their next three candidates: Arsene Wenger, Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, and Uatu the Watcher.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Historically, I dontt think he's (Stoops) necessarily a ND fan or anything, but he's a good football coach and proven winner. If I was ND, that's the kind of guy I would get after.

Losing all your BCS bowl games would be a big improvement over Losing all your bowl games

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Haha good point, but this is Notre Dame, some of the blowhards practically say they should be in the Super Bowl every year...
Haha maybe they should just forgo the NCAA and play the Pro Bowl, it might actually make it worth watching

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Harbaugh is signing a contract extension at Stanford. I guess he is having too much fun feuding with Pete Carroll to leave.
Last year, with a huge lead and time running out, Pete reinserts star linebackers Maluagua and Cushing in the game to stop a late Stanford score. This year, Harbaugh goes for 2 points after a TD with a 48-21 lead. Good stuff.

I think with Title IX and all they should just cut the football program.

UConn 33 ND 30 in two overtimes.
This pretty much seals it.

Yep, it's not if they fire him, it's if he gets to coach in the bowl game. 6 wins (sure it's remotely possible they win 7) is just not going to cut it.

Fans on Edge While Waiting for the Inevitable . . .
Rochin54, please account for your whereabouts on Sunday!
LINK
Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was punched in the face by an irate fan outside a South Bend restaurant early Sunday morning and has a swollen eye, a person briefed on the incident said on Monday.
That person said Clausen was "sucker-punched" by a fan as he left an establishment after having dinner with his parents.
The fan allegedly said something to Clausen and/or a female acquaintance.
A South Bend police spokesman said that no police reports were filed over the weekend involving Clausen, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The newspaper also reported that the name of the bar was CJ's and that a bartender at the establishment said that Clausen had been there with family members and other Irish upperclassmen after Notre Dame's loss to Connecticut on Senior Day.
The source told ESPN.com that the injury is not expected to keep Clausen from playing this weekend against Stanford.
Joe Schad is a college football reporter for ESPN.com.

Re: Soooo....Weis?
Ha - I just heard all this this morning driving into work. Hinestly, people need to grow up a little....punching a college kid because he didn't win a football game? Good lord.
As a side, CJ's does have delicious burgers. They can get a bit spendy, and the crowd can be rough, but boy they are tasty.
