SENIOR NIGHT: L&C @ Portland, Tuesday 7pm.
Time to bid farewell to our 5 seniors as they play their final game in Chiles Center... Lewis & Clark College Pioneers @ Portland, 7:00pm on Tuesday night...
L&C is a member of the NCAA D-III NorthWest Conference (along with George Fox, Linfield, Pacific, PLU, UPS, Whitman, Whitworth & Willamette). L&C is 10-15 overall, 9-7 in NWC play, and it looks as though this will be their final game of the year, as the NWC tourney was last week.
Thank you to our Seniors for turning this program around, and bringing us out of the dumps to a West Coast power! Is there any chance that Nik will start, play the opening tip off, and then a quick time out or something?

Re: SENIOR NIGHT: L&C @ Portland, Tuesday 7pm.
I would also like to say a big thank you to Nik,Robin, Ethan, Taishi, and T.J. for all the wonderful memories they have created for the PILOT MEN'S HOOPS. The beginning of a new chapter in Pilot Mens Basketball that looks to only get better!!!
As far as Nik on the Comcast broadcast they were mentioning not ready until postseason tourney play (after WCC Championships). But we all know Nik if he is 50% and has to drag his leg with him I'm sure there are two games he would love to play in Vegas.

Re: SENIOR NIGHT: L&C @ Portland, Tuesday 7pm.
As the Pilots' unofficial Division III scout, there are a couple of things I'd like to point out about L&C.
In conclusion, this isn't a game through which the Pilots can sleepwalk. PSU tried that against my Bearcats (who finished seventh in the NWC), and barely squeaked out a 97-90 win. But if we lock down their shooters and pound the ball inside, this game *should* be over by halftime, and everybody can get some much deserved rest.
- The Pioneers are probably the best-coached team in the NWC, and their coach's name should be familiar to long-time WCC fans. Bob Gaillard is a USF alum and was the Dons' head coach during their incredible run in the 70s. L&C is the most sports-apathetic school I've ever seen. They average 200 fans a game (by comparison, Willamette had over 1300 on senior night), but somehow Gaillard has put together eight 19+ win seasons in 20 years. This year's team was supposed to be awful, but he still got them to the NWC tournament, which only takes the top four schools.
- L&C's major weakness is in the post. Their tallest player is 6'8'', but he doesn't play much, so their starting center is 6'7''. Kramer, Robin, Luke, and Jasonn should have a field day.
- Their strength, of course, is on the perimeter. Every one of their guards can shoot - and hit - threes. If you sag off defensively, they will burn you. In one of the most painful basketball games I've ever witnessed, L&C his 20-43 on threes (including 13-22 in the second half) to beat Willamette in Salem.
- Oddly enough, L&C prefers to play a slow-down style of offense. Most of their threes come in halfcourt sets, not in transition. Generally speaking, if you can speed them up, you can wear them down. Running is not what they do best.

We talk about resting the starters, but I thought the only reason for this game was to keep playing so as to stay sharp!

Get 'em out there for a half, build a 30 point lead, have a nice send-off for the seniors, then cruise. Staying sharp is absolutely the reason why we scheduled this game, but we have a short bench already and there's no use getting worn out. That's why I hope nobody is overlooking L&C.

You really can't overemphasize what a big accomplishment it is for this team to get to 20 wins. Some historical perspective:
Pilot 20-Win Seasons (format is year, coach, record):
Thank you Coach, thank you seniors, thank you everyone who made this happen.

1949-50 | Mush Torson | 22-12 |

Re: SENIOR NIGHT: L&C @ Portland, Tuesday 7pm.
Congrats to all Seniors in closing out their careers at Chiles Center...
Robin passed the 1,000 point mark, in just 3 seasons... a fitting Senior Night accomplishment for the first recruit to sign under Coach Reveno.
Was there a dry eye in the house when Taishi finally got around the team "hug line" to his already-teary mother?
Let's hope we got all the ugly play out of our system heading into WCC Tourney time.

Re: SENIOR NIGHT: L&C @ Portland, Tuesday 7pm.
I kinda wish we'd have had a big, loud saturday night crowd to bid them farewell. We didn't bring down the house to thank them like I'd hoped. I guess I also kind of hoped that Rev would take them out one at a time, to individually say goodbye to each...
These guys are a historical bunch who have done a TON for this program.
ON TO VEGAS!

If I'd had wings, I'd have shared them (hypothetically).

Rev did it this way back in his first year too and it bothered me then too. I guess you have to see this as him supporting a team mentality. Maybe? Whatever it was I want to thank those 5 guys for building a great program (to take from Rev).
