Commissioner's Cup Update
After the conclusion of the men's and women's basketball seasons, UP still leads the conference in the Commissioner's Cup Standings:

With our baseball program looking to continue its upward trend this year (17-6, 2-0 start in conference so far, W7 streak), we could be in the running for winning the Cup. Great news for all of our athletic programs!

Re: Commissioner's Cup Update
Updated standings following the conclusion of the golf championship:
2009-10 Commissioner's Cup Standings
Updated 4/21/10
Portland - 41.0
San Diego - 38.0
Saint Mary's - 37.5
Loyola Marymount - 35.0
Santa Clara - 34.5
San Francisco - 34.0
Gonzaga - 33.5
Pepperdine - 33.5
LINK
The standings will be updated soon for the tennis championship results, and the race should tighten some as the Pilots finished in the lower half there. Only sports left to be factored in are rowing and baseball . Still looking good for the Pilots!
Too bad a certain school up north stuck in a trash conference doesn't spread some of their resources around to all of their sports programs.

Re: Commissioner's Cup Update
Hmmm... USD won 3rd in both Men's & Women's Tennis, while the Pilots finished 7th & 6th... so they will likely over take us... and it will likely be UP & USD near the top of the final standings for baseball, so we wont make up much ground there...
None the less, a very impressive showing by Pilots Athletics this year!

Re: Commissioner's Cup Update
Really, a banner year for Pilot athletics.
Women's soccer ranked Top 5, national quarterfinals.
Men's soccer ranked Top 25, NCAA 3rd round.
Men's XC ranked Top 5, Top 15 at nationals.
Men's basketball ranked Top 25, 20 wins and post-season invite.
Baseball ranked Top 30, potential candidate for NCAAs.
Extremely, extremely impressive.

Re: Commissioner's Cup Update
Here are the REAL final numbers, since the WCC's announcement of San Diego winning the Cup didn't include the baseball points:
San Diego: 66
Pepperdine: 62.5
Portland: 57
Saint Mary’s: 56.5
Santa Clara: 55.5
San Francisco: 55
LMU: 47
Gonzaga: 46.5
Very proud of our Pilots... we have historically struggled in the Commissioner's Cup standings, but our improvements in men's and women's basketball and baseball really propelled us this year.
If we can finish a bit higher in men's soccer next year (really, what a shame we only placed 4th), return to normal and win women's XC (finished 3rd this year with several runners redshirting and an extremely young team), finish a spot or two higher in volleyball and the tennises and golfs... we could be right in the mix to win it! I realize that sentence included a lot of ifs, but still... a boy can dream, right?

That last paragraph sounded like a Peter Gammons "Keys to Next Season"...

Re: Commissioner's Cup Update
Thanks for the numbers update. I wondered how the Pilots slipped so far!Stonehouse wrote:Here are the REAL final numbers, since the WCC's announcement of San Diego winning the Cup didn't include the baseball points:

Well, it is gonna be tough to duplicate the efforts in men's basketball and baseball. I think the rest of the league will be better next year, catching up to us some. But I do love your outlook!
