Re: 2010 Schedule Official Release
Are you a Pilot fan or not? It's not either-or.
Halftime at Merlo field... room for 5000
the G.A. tickets HAVE to be cheaper than catering in the Gorge.
There's already a tent in the corner - I'll get you in on a guest pass.
Widmer, hot dogs, and Pokies for the reception meal. Maybe Kettle corn guy will send some across the field.
I wonder if the Villans can play Pomp and Circumstance on the drums?
UP won't have to spring for the frisbee dogs, so they might even kick in a little.

I'll be gone that weekend so you can have my ticket for extra a guest. The Villans will have plenty of time to learn the wedding march. sp

PS/UP Fan - It should be no problem. You don't have to reschedule the time, just the place. Do as I do and schedule your vacation in Portland. In fact, I will probably make that weekend my two in-person games this fall - my fall vacation.

ff afar,
I have already changed my plans and look forward to a great match. Just need a health Pilots team by that time... Trying to convince some Pennsylvania relatives to visit at the same time.

Re: 2010 Schedule Official Release
Another great schedule. Does anyone remember the games when we played against Mexico's women's national team? Those were great. Crowds of 4,000 or so with the Mexican flags waving as well as the UP flag. I'd love to road trip to PDX and bring my girlfriend to one of those games if we ever get that set up again.

I think that was the game I learned that there are 11 stanzas to the Mexican National Anthem.

Re: 2010 Schedule Official Release
I don't recall seeing this earlier, so I'll put it here:
The Pilots' game at San Diego on October 22, at 8:00 pm, will be televised on Fox Soccer Channel.
I've just finished some 2010 strength-of-schedule calculations based on this year's schedules for the top 60 RPI-rated teams from last year. I calculated average opponent's strength for each team, using teams' 2009 RPIs as the measure of this year's strength, since that's as good as anything. I calculated the 2010 overall schedule average strength for each team and also the 2010 non-conference schedule average strength.
Here are the results, first for overall schedule and then for non-conference schedule. The data, reading across, are the team, the team's 2009 final RPI rank (including games from the NCAA Tournament), the team's 2010 overall average strength of schedule, and the team's 2010 non-conference strength of schedule. This provides some interesting insight into the difficulty teams outside the very top conferences have in matching top conference teams' strengths of schedule.

Re: 2010 Schedule Official Release
Looks like the Pilots are going for it with a very tough nonconference schedule. Good for the team, great for the fans.

Re: 2010 Schedule Official Release
As I think about the overall strength of schedule vs non-conference SOS numbers, what I see is this:
For non-conference SOS, 18 of the top 25 teams are from outside the ACC and Pac 10. For overall SOS, only 8 of the top 25 are from outside the ACC and Pac 10.
Texas A&M drops from #1 in non-conference SOS to #17 in overall SOS; Santa Clara drops from #2 to #7; Florida from #5 to #16; Wisconsin from # 6 to #24; Portland from #7 to #21; Penn State from #9 to #19;Georgia from #14 to #22; and Auburn from #21 to #25. All the other non-ACC, non-Pac 10 teams in the top 25 non-conference SOS drop completely out of the top 25 overall SOS (Notre Dame from #8 to #35, UCF 10 to 48, Missouri 11 to 32, San Diego State 15 to 45, UNC Greensboro 17 to 55, Marquette 18 to 38, Villanova 22 to 30, Connecticut 23 to 28, San Diego 24 to 31, and Rutgers 25 to 40).
Looking at it the other way around, every one of the ACC and Pac 10 teams in the top 25 overall SOS improves its position from the top 25 non-conference SOS.
This illustrates the virtual impossibility of teams outside the ACC and Pac 10, even teams from the next tier of conferences, matching the ACC and Pac 10 teams in overall strength of schedule.

Re: 2010 Schedule Official Release
When I first saw Wisconsin on the schedule, and not in bold, I got excited that I might be able to see a game...but then I saw that it is in Seattle, not gonna help me much.
Estplnr, I got married the same day as a third round playoff game that was being played in Portland. About eight season ticket holders were in Sunriver instead of Portland. Luckily my man, Stonehouse had his laptop and set up the live audio and game tracker in one of the other rooms. So there were definitely people during the reception following the Pilot game. So that would be my suggestion, bring a laptop and hope they have wi-fi. Or maybe by soccer season there will be a UP athletics iPhone app!
