Re: LMU/Pepperdine Games
i think the video feed redirects to
http://www.uncsocial.com/tv/
which i think was paid for by a UNC parent.
Try that if the first link doesn't work.
It's up now and showing a live feed of the field.

I can't wait for this weekend. It's been a month since I've seen the Pilots and now there's 4 games in 3 days.
Nothing against our opponents, but I want to see goals. Lots and lots of goals.

While one might want to see UNC lose, I don't agree from a Pilots point of view. UNC is likely to be a #1 seed come the NCAAs. What I don't want to see is any other team from the ACC getting a #1 seed. So, I hope UNC wins out and the other top ACC teams evenly divide up their wins and losses against each other.

Good point, UPSF. I can be flexible. GO UNC!!!
Actually, I guess they already went - 1-0.

Very big games this weekend. I guess they all are. Both games promise to be tough.
Re: LMU/Pepperdine Games
Friday night ahead, and Merlo Field beckons. LMU has no wins versus ranked teams and is 2-2 on the road this season, but since LMU has 8 wins the Pilots can't look past them -- just take care of business.

Here's a link to the Loyola Marymount page at the NC-Soccer website. If PN bloggers aren't aware of that site, check it out. It's the best source of information there is about all of the teams. Here's the LMU page link: http://www.nc-soccer.com/wsoccer/2010/schedule/50
Re: LMU/Pepperdine Games
A 2-0 win was a fair result. Cruz got the first while being pulled back by the defender she beat. No idea what happened on the second other than it was a cross into the goal area.
Pilots had most of the possession but were patient with the shots, so that number was not as high as we might have expected. Hallie had one or two headers and shots that went just wide. Her size seemed to be an advantage tonight.
Kendall and Kassi both started and looked like they have recovered nicely. Kassi did well filling in for Olivier tonight.
LMU got the ball into the penalty area for extended periods a couple times in the second half. They're a decent team, really. Once again we had an opposing keeper that made a number of good saves to keep it close.
Overall I had a great night coming back after a long time away.

Re: LMU/Pepperdine Games
I liked 2 goals on 6 shots in the first half. In fact everything about the first half tilted the Pilots' way. So many players showcased their individual ball skills -- Kendall taking a ball out of the air inbounds by the sideline while jumping and twisting, Taylor pulling incredible U-turns to shake a defender, Ellie on a rampage into the corner ... ah, just fun to watch the result of great coaching and endless practice.
LMU did apply pressure in the second half, and had tied the shots count at 8 at one point. Their counterattack had some good chances and they sent one shot off the crossbar after the Pilots' 2nd goal. It was telling to see the Californians with gloves and long sleeves on a chilly, clear night.
Ellen Parker did well at attacking mid replacing Sophie, with good ball distribution and a strong presence. Keelin was outstanding -- LMU keeper at one point started passing the ball to her defenders rather than punt since the Keelin and the Pilots were winning every 50-50 header.

Haha gotta love the contrast.
My wife has kept track of teams coming to UP over the last 18 years. No team has ever come in here and won if there are gloves on the field. Her theory is they are too worried about the weather to play the game.
The same temperature and a light drizzle is the only thing better.

Re: LMU/Pepperdine Games
According to the fans behind me, who had a clear look at the shot off our crossbar, it was a great shot by a Pilot intending to clear the ball, not by an LMU player.
Re: LMU/Pepperdine Games
Elli was so confident on the ball! At one point she tracked the ball away from the goal with an opposing player between her and the goal, and flicked it over both their heads, continuing possession towards the goal!
Side note: Angie Woznuk was at the game.

I was a little surprised to see the Pilots warm up in long sleeves to be honest.Geezaldinho wrote:purple haze wrote:

I've been impressed with Michelle Cruz's progress. She has really become a confident player up front. She is very aggressive, yet under control.

She still had a brace on last night, though she was in uniform.

And she ran with the team during the pre-game warmup, which she hadn't been doing earlier in the year. It would sure be nice to see her get game legs tomorrow, then be back in the lineup for Santa Clara and San Diego next weekend. She's not Sophie, but she's a player of comparable skill.

Re: LMU/Pepperdine Games
I hate to be the voice of negativity but if Kendra still has a brace on her knee today, like she did on Friday, then it's hard to see how she is going to be able to play again this season.
We've been watching her closely in warm ups all year and she does not look like she's on track to play.
It breaks my heart to say that, because I'd love to see her running out there in the game but I fear it's not going to happen. I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

Kendall played with a knee brace on Friday. Is Kendra's brace more substantial or indicative of a more serious continuing disability? It was hard to tell from where I sit whether the brace was just for support or something more.
