Agreed... Waterford has really stepped up his game this year, and has knocked down some big shots for us. I have been pleasantly surprised with his play.

Here's some numbers to go with that:
21 assists, 8 TO -- pretty Steady for a point guard
.500 from the field
.529 from the arc
These are Jared numbers, folks.
And he's good for a couple of rebounds a game averaging 24+ minutes
About the only place he could improve is free throws, at .591
I'm not sure what more you could ask of him.

Re: Portland vs. UCSB basketball
Yeah, but. Missing free throws really bothers me. Only .591 from a guard is horrible. And that doesn't count missed front end 1+1's. I know that happened last night. Oh, well, hopefully some extra practice and focus will help him improve in that area. Anyone that can shoot over .500 from behind the arc should be able to perform at the free throw line.

Agreed with missing three FT in a row when thinggs were getting a little tite, Rev took him out for a oeriod of time to sette him down I feel. A good point guard can't afford to get rattled when things are getting a little dicey.
All in all his play has been good and his shooting a plus, what with our frosh not doing much at all in the scoring end. There are a lot of games yet to play and hope fully the frosh will begin to contribute with some scoring

Game recap and box score:
Pilots Cruise Past UC Santa Barbara Behind Stohl’s 26 Points
PORTLAND, Ore. --- Senior Jared Stohl drilled six three-pointers and scored a season-high 26 points as the Portland Pilots led from start-to-finish in a 75-63 rout of UC Santa Barbara Saturday night at the Chiles Center. Portland led by as much as 25 points in the first period after holding the Gauchos to 15 points before halftime.
The Pilots (5-2) improve to 4-0 at the Chiles Center this season and have yet to trail on their home court. The Gauchos (2-3), an NCAA Tournament team last year with all five starters returning, suffered their largest defeat of the season.
Senior forward Luke Sikma recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while matching his career high with seven assists. Juniors Eric Waterford and Nemanja Mitrovic added 11 points each for the Pilots.
Portland forced 16 turnovers by the Gauchos in the first half en route to a 37-15 lead at the break. The Pilots gained a 16-3 edge in points off of turnovers in the period and made 8-of-16 three-pointers.
UCSB would score 48 second-half points, but the deficit never got closer than nine points. A three-pointer by Kyle Boswell with 5:18 remaining made it 60-51, but Waterford answered with a three of his own on the ensuing Portland possession to spark a 10-2 run. The spurt was finished by Stohl’s sixth three-pointer of the night with 3:10 left.
Stohl entered the game leading the nation with 22 three-pointers made and extended his margin with a 6-for-9 performance on Saturday. He is looking to become the first player in NCAA history to lead the nation in three-point percentage in two separate seasons. After posting a nation’s best 47.8 percent last year, he is 28-for-54 (.519) early on this season.
UCSB was led by James Nunnally with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Orlando Johnson came into the game averaging 26.3 points, sixth nationally, but was held to 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting and committed five turnovers.
Portland will return to the court on Tuesday to host the Saint Louis Billikens (3-2), coached by Rick Majerus. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Chiles Center.
NOTES: Jared Stohl made his first 22 free throw attempts of the season before missing the second of two attempts with 4:37 remaining … Stohl also moved into fifth place in WCC history for career three-pointers made (273) and trails Craig Davis (Pepperdine, 1985-90) by one for fourth place … Nemanja Mitrovic came off the bench today while nursing a knee injury suffered at Washington State on Tuesday … Luke Sikma recorded his 13th career double-double … Portland has led by at least 20 points in each of its four true home games at the Chiles Center this season.

An alley-oop dunk off an inbounds pass?
Kidding, really, Waterford has stepped up very well and I don't think you can ask much more than a 3:1 assist-to-turnover ration and 50% shooting from the field. The free throws will come.
