Tracking our RPI as we progress through our WCC schedule...
http://www.realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html
I thought that it would be kind of nice to have an ongoing thread to see what happens to our RPI between now and the end of the season. The WCC isn't the Big East or the Pac-10, but, it's respectable. All the same, we can expect our RPI to drop some by the end of the season. I think that shooting for a top 64 RPI is still a realistic goal regardless of where we finish the season (in terms of possible post season play), and it would be a significant improvement... Now, that we're already at 14-4, things are looking promising for a nice win total at the end of the year. Our RPI is currently at #48...

As of this morning, Jerry Palm of www.collegerpi.com 's premium portion of the site has the "Projected RPI" -- e/o regular season not counting WCC tourney as follows: SMC 40, UP 50, GU 55. Interestingly, he has all three schools finishing at 12-2 in league.

That's interesting. I had just thought of that possibility of a three way tie atop the conference. I don't think it's likely, but I think we reasonably have a chance at splitting with GU and SMC, and we SHOULD sweep everyone else. But, SHOULD is why we play the games!

We lost to #123 USF yesterday. When I look at their RPI ranking, this isn't as bad of a loss as I originally thought. If USF works their way into the top 100 teams by the end of the season, any win over them is shown as a quality win (with a $ sign) on the Real Time RPI site. All the same, our #42 RPI ranking will be dropping a bit in the coming days...

Since our most recent loss, we fell 8 spots to #50. USF rose to #101, so they're almost in the top 100 as a quality team (for the NCAA tourney resume) now.
SMC took our old spot @ #42, and Gonzaga dipped below us to #55 with their loss to SCU.

Love or hate discussing RPI, here's what happened:
A loss to a stronger team (GU-- now at #71), and a win over a very weak team: SU-- #296--the weakest team on our schedule other than USD) meant that we slid down to #77. We currently have 2 high quality top 100 team wins on the resume: Florida Atlantic (#93) and St. Mary's (#36).
