2012-13 schedule
Official Release
Some challenging games to be sure, but also a better balance. Yes, there are two non-D1s after the exhibitions, but sometimes you can't get D1 opponents that are a good fit.

Re: 2012-13 schedule
And, here's some of the story to go with the schedule:
The entire article is here:LINKPORTLAND, Ore. --- A featured home game against UNLV and trip to defending national champion Kentucky are two of many highlights on the University of Portland 2012-13 men’s basketball schedule, which was announced on Wednesday. The Pilots will play a total of at least 15 regular season games against teams that reached postseason play last year, including 10 contests against NCAA Tournament squads.
Portland will play a total of 18 home games at the Chiles Center, highlighted by the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels on Dec. 4. The Pilots regular season home opener will be Nov. 15 against Idaho State, while crosstown rival Portland State visit the Chiles Center on Nov. 21.
A rigorous non-conference road schedule begins with the regular season opener against 2012 Sweet Sixteen participant Ohio University on Nov. 10. Other featured road games include New Mexico, which reached the NCAA third round, and CBI finalist Washington State.
"It will always be our goal to play a non-conference schedule that prepares us for the rigors of West Coast Conference play and this year I think we have put together a schedule that meets that goal,” Portland head coach Eric Reveno said. “On paper, at least, the schedule presents both opportunities for us to develop our young team and earn quality wins at home and on the road."
"As always, the WCC schedule will be a tremendous challenge,” Reveno noted. “You can analyze the schedule all kinds of ways such as by number games in a row at home, or when you play someone, or if your students are in session, but the reality in this conference is that the one thing you cannot escape is that the teams you are playing are tough and getting tougher. Every program in the conference is trending upward. It will be a tremendous battle."
"We are excited about this year's team,” Reveno added. “With only one senior we will still be one of the youngest teams in the conference, but we hope to be able to move in front of the learning curve and get back to our successful ways. We set high expectations year in and year out for our program. I am very proud to work with this group of players and coaches to achieve those goals. We look forward to some big crowds rocking the Chiles Center to help us along that journey."
The first chance to see the team in game action will be with a pair of home exhibitions versus Concordia (Ore.) on Oct. 27 and defending NAIA national champion Concordia-Irvine on Nov. 3.

Re: 2012-13 schedule
Yep, still unknown, but it is understood there will be two games per day, beginning at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are being sold in two game packages, so they won’t be clearing the arena. I would say it’s a safe bet the games will be at noon and 3PM, allowing some of us to fly home Sunday evening …. avoiding the Christmas Eve travel panic.pilotram wrote:So Las Vegas Classic opponents still unknown?

Re: 2012-13 schedule
This just in...........UP will play Colorado State in their first game in Las Vegas. The time of the game still unknown, but it's probably the noon game on 12/22.
The Orleans Arena is only selling tickets as a 2-day package.....the price of a ticket is $44, $65, and $115.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to make two trips to LV this year. If I decide to go, I'm sure the scalpers will have lots of tickets available at less than face value. I've got my favorite LV scalper on speed dial if anyone wants his number.
Has anyone priced plane tickets yet?

As I always fly on Alaska, I didn't shop around, but did find a R/T fare on Alaska for $325 flying on Friday afternoon and Sunday evening.blacksheep wrote:I haven't decided yet if I'm going to make two trips to LV this year. Re: 2012-13 schedule
I'm definitely tempted. Looks like I could do about $270 on Southwest. I wonder if the Orleans would comp my room?

I am tempted by this weekend, as well... the Orleans "should" comp my room, knowing what a poor decision-maker I am at the tables...

I've never taken home more money than I went to Vegas with. Heck, my best night was when you were coaching me at pai gow.

Well, as you may recall, I was apparently "babtized" by some BYU fans who thought I had died.......so maybe I'll just stay in my room for a change.blacksheep wrote:I've never taken home more money than I went to Vegas with. Neat....one of Colorado State's recruits is from our town here. Will be interesting to see if he gets any playing time against the Pilots.

The Rams are guard-heavy this year, so doubtful. But there should be opportunities for him next year.

Re: 2012-13 schedule
Colorado State has already played one game this summer, beating the Bahamas All-Stars 95-80. The freshman from Regina you mentioned, Joe De Ciman, scored three points and added four rebounds and two assists.DeanMurdoch wrote:Neat....one of Colorado State's recruits is from our town here. The game was Rams’ only exhibition game of their trip to the Bahamas, the rest of the time they scrimmaged and "toured" the area. (I guess state schools have larger budgets).

Yea, that is an hour later for TV than originally scheduled...it should be correct on the tickets when we receive them.Geezaldinho wrote:Just saw this:Portland Pilots (@PortlandPilots)

Good point. It would be tough to even get me to go to that game... I go to EVERY game... that I can... which is 90% of games.
I'm a FAN okay?

I'm sure a few will show up to cheer like maniacs when the 'crowd cam' light is on, then go quiet as soon as it goes off.DoubleDipper wrote:Yea, that is an hour later for TV than originally scheduled...it should be correct on the tickets when we receive them.Geezaldinho wrote:Just saw this:Portland Pilots (@PortlandPilots)

Re: 2012-13 schedule
According to this release by the WCC (Link), only UP's home games against UNLV (ESPNU) and BYU (ESPN2) and the away game at Kentucky (ESPN2) will be broadcast on any ESPN networks. Better call up Comcast (or Root Sport)!

Re: 2012-13 schedule
For many of us the broadcast of home games is unnecessary, although I'm not sure the away game at Kentucky on ESPN2 would have been my first choice of a game away from the Chiles Center.RipCityPilot wrote:According to this release by the WCC (Link), only UP's home games against UNLV (ESPNU) and BYU (ESPN2) will be broadcast on any ESPN networks. I think we can count on seeing a number of UP games on ROOT and its affiliates.
