LOI Day 2011
Just a reminder that Wednesday is Letter of Intent day for Soccer, Track and Field, and Cross Country.
If UP follows true to form, we won't get an official release for a month or six weeks ( or even more).
But Prep schools, high schools, club programs, etc. Like to brag on their athletic successes, so we probably will get signing news.
We know most of the signees, but Keep you eyes peeled. We may get a surprise or two. Soccer especially had a big graduating class, so there is room on the roster.

You would think ESPNU could work it into their 10 hours of coverage. Gridiron football's not that big a deal, right?

Re: LOI Day 2011
Adding the unexpected player or two to this year's class would be a pleasant surprise . . .I hope, Geezer, you have reason for implying the possibility and hope further that it will be someone that may crack the starting lineup, though that may be too much to hope for.
Any transfers coming perhaps?
Given that you took no classes at the U, I doff my almost unused cap in your direction. Your loyalty to Pilot athletics is refreshing--where would this site be if you felt otherwise?

Re: LOI Day 2011
Kaila Cameli would, to my rather limited recollection, be the first women's team JC transfer . . .but I await correction. The announcers may have some fun if she is on the pitch with Micaela Capelle . . .
Anyone want to fill in on her success at Phoenix College?

Re: LOI Day 2011
Well, it is expected she will sign, and the cat won't go back in, so here goes...
She was indeed her conference POY, based on an output of 22 goals and 12 assist this year. That was also good enough to get her a first team junior college All American selection. It would be hard to find that out, though, because the national folks misspelled her name as. C a r n e l i

It's also good enough to be a Phoenix College single season record. That's significant because the previous record was 18 and 10 held by UNC 2008 striker Jessica McDonald, who went to UNC after a stint at Phoenix. UNC won it all that year.
http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/data/GlobalFiles/file/MG09_WS_web_sm.pdf
PC records show she signed a letter of intent the last two years
http://www.njcaa.org/colleges_college_intent.cfm?collegeid=1247&sid=31&slid=16&category=Intent
maybe she was hurt the first year. i find no stats for her for 2009, but she was in the 2009 media book.
http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/data/GlobalFiles/file/MG09_WS_web_sm.pdf
It appears she has 3 years left of eligibility
Position: Forward
Height: 5’5
Major: Undecided
High School: Apollo
Hometown: Glendale, AZ
Personal: Born on December 27, 1990, Kaila is
the daughter of Mike and Mary Cameli…She
has four sisters Christina, Cara, Kapri and Karli.
her soccer goals in HS are sketchy, although she did score 31 goals in 2006 for Apollo HS
I don't see any club or ODP records on her. it looks like she played high school only.
it looks like she has great speed. i hope it translates to D1
some track times:
http://www.directathletics.com/athletes/track/907392.html
http://apollo.guhsdaz.org/athletics/spring_sports/track___field/girl_s_relays_hall_of_fame/
In addition to her relays, she had the fastest time 12.44 in Arizona in the 100m and 200m in 2006
http://www.athletic.net/trackandfield/division/Top.aspx?DivID=774
She was a tad slower in 2007
http://www.athletic.net/trackandfield/division/Top.aspx?DivID=1320
http://www.athletic.net/trackandfield/division/Top.aspx?DivID=774
her sister Karli may be faster. I wonder if she plays soccer?
Kaila and Macdonald raced agaist each other in high school
Different heats and wind, though, so it's not a direct comparison.

Re: LOI Day 2011
Maybe more appropriate for BigSoccer forum but Penn State announced their class already. Was very small (4). Again several players are also track athletes. I am surprised the announcement was this fast. In the past it has taken months before being announced.

Re: LOI Day 2011
Some schools announce very fast. UP is very conservative and won't announce until they get ALL the letter, they are approved by the appropriate school departments, and cleared by the NCAA.
Penn state probably has a small class because they were VERY young last year. They will still be a great team this year, I think, now that they have a year under their belts

Re: LOI Day 2011
Geez, you are right they were very young and graduated only 3-4 people. Well that is the Blue part of my Indigo out of my system. Now the Purple part is excited to see what the Pilots final enrollees look like and what the new season has in store.

Re: LOI Day 2011
This doesn't have to do with 2011 Letters of Intent, but the recruiting website has three players listed as 2012 Pilots recruits:
Aldrete, Taylor F Anaheim, CA So Cal Blues 2010 Region IV ODP
2010 ODP Thanksgiving Interregional
Degrood, Haylee D Riverside, CA Arsenal FC 2010 Region IV ODP
2010 ODP Thanksgiving Interregional
Jeter, Devlyn F Sacramento, CA Elk Grove Everton SC 2010 Region IV ODP
2010 ODP Thanksgiving Interregional
I think I recall seeing mention of Degrood, but I don't recall seeing anything about the others.
