Gold cup
Just watching USA Canada.
It's interesting to see Steve Cherundolo and Josh Simpson going head to head on the same side of the field.
Purple Pride!

USA 1-0 at the half on an Altidore score.
Wynalda: "We don't know how to analyze this. The U.S. isn't behind and a forward has scored."

USA 2. -- Canada 0
Can't help thinking that if Canada had Timmay! That result goes the other way.

Canada coach Stephen Hart on Tim Howard: "He was absolute magic. I almost clapped on the save."

HERE WE GO
USA Mexico for all tha marbles again. Neither had an easy semi final.
Though Mexico beat Honduras 3-0, none of the scores came in regulation and both teams had chances.
USA - Panama was only shorter, not easier. The USA looked fairly solid in the 4-5-1 they played. Our boy Cherundolo was a solidifying force on defense and had some nifty crosses going forward.
Donovan and Freddy Adu ( remember him?) started a run that began with a great outlet from Adu to Donovan, then a perfect cross to the far Post that Dempsey easily finished from three yards.
Mexico and the USA fly now to LA on the same plane for Saturday's final. This should be another great contest. It's one rivalry left where the players really don't like each other. I love that.

Re: Gold cup
ADUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!! Put all the hype aside the kid always has been talented.... Leo Messi? Not by a long shot, but the kid can generate offense when surrounded by the right players. The development of players like him, Altidore and Agudelo are key if the US is going to take that next step internationally. You just gotta hope he can find the right opportunity, which very well could mean swallowing the pride and coming back to MLS. Donovan and Dempsey are still the only top tier talent the US has on the offensive side, which has to be concerning for Bob Bradley... Jozy hasn't improved at all in the last 2 years (but then again he hasn't really played either...) and I'm not sure there is really much of anything coming up beyond Agudelo...
But at least our defense is looking solid, Ream and Gonzalez (if we ever see them together) look promising up the middle and between Edu and Jones our holding mid position is fantastic shape. We are finally seeing what all that hype surrounding JJ's international allegiance was all about, the dude has an amazing work rate and just locks down the center of the pitch. Plus I love that he carries on the US tradition put forth by Thomas Dooley on having a holding mid that only speaks German... Thank goodness our boy Dolo is around to translate!

Re: Gold cup
Adu is talented, but, if I ever see him flop in international competition again, I am going to hurl. He has to play more technical ball to play to his potential. DonovanĀ“s service is key...
