I just notice Hawai'i is up next on Tuesday.
Boy, will they be in for a shock. I wonder if they have ever sat though a hail delay.

Come on, it often rains in Hawaii!!Portland’s baseball game scheduled for Tuesday afternoon against Hawai’i at Joe Etzel Field has been cancelled due to the inclement weather. The game against Hawai’i will not be re-scheduled, but the Pilots will look to add more games to the future schedule to make up for their cancelled contests.

Of note
• Portland's snow delay: Quietly toiling away in the Pacific Northwest, the Pilots are out to their second-best start in school history at 13-3. Sunday's 2-1 win over Cal State Northridge was disrupted by a 30-minute snow delay. After the game resumed, Michael Lucarelli knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Pilots the series win over the Matadors.

NO GAME TODAY
Inclement weather and field conditions have prompted the Pilots to cancel today’s scheduled game against BYU.
Instead, they will play a doubleheader against BYU Friday at Concordia’s Hilken Stadium; first pitch at 11am. Saturday’s series finale is still scheduled to be played Joe Etzel Field on campus with first pitch at 1pm.

Re: Play Ball!!!!
UP split the double header today with BYU.
BYU won the first game 3-2 in 12 innings.
Uncharacteristically, the first and third BYU runs we're unearned.
UP won the second 3-1
Tomorrow's rubber match should be interesting.

Turns out they probably could have gotten it in today, but it wasn't a sure thing this morning and OSU had to come up from Corvallis.

Re: Play Ball!!!!
Finally back to their winning ways:
Portland senior starter Kyle Kraus was in control on the mound and freshman Caleb Whalen belted a solo home run as the Pilots defeated the Santa Clara Broncos 3-1 in the opening game of a three-game West Coast Conference series at Stephen Schott Stadium on Friday night. With 24 career wins, Kraus is now just one W shy of matching Wes Smith for the all-time career wins record at UP.
They play again tomorrow and Sunday, and wouldn't you know, the forecast is for RAIN.

Apparently worth the wait though, as UP's pitching came through once again.upsailor wrote:Ur rite double dipp.thr bbGAME IS DELAYED.
Three Portland pitchers combined to hold Santa Clara to just two hits and freshman Caleb Whalen belted his second home run in as many days as the Pilots shutout the Broncos 2-0 in a West Coast Conference baseball game played on a wet Saturday night at Stephen Schott Stadium. The game was delayed by about 40 minutes by rain in the seventh inning.
Tomorrow's forecast: "A shower or two."

Re: Play Ball!!!!
The Pilots lost in Corvallis tonight (Tuesday), 8-2. UP falls to 16-7 on the year while the Beavers are now 18-8.
UP scored in the top of the first, but the #20 Beavers just had too much offense, outhitting Portland, 15-7.
Both teams used six pitchers in an attempt to keep everyone’s arms rested for the continuation of conference play later in the week. USF comes to Portland for a double-header on Thursday, followed by a single game on Saturday.
What do you want to bet the rain will cause some interruptions?

They definitely could have gotten the double header in today, but I don't blame them for moving the game when the University closed at 4pm today. I would want to go home too.

Off on Good Friday, they'll resume play on Saturday with a double-header.RipCityPilot wrote:They definitely could have gotten the double header in today, but I don't blame them for moving the game when the University closed at 4pm today. I would want to go home too.
As I recall, PurplePrideTrumpet said:
So it should be a great day for baseball.Saturday's going to be sunny and pushing 60.
As for today's game:
Portland scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to hand starting pitcher Kyle Kraus all the run support he would need as the Pilots opened a three-game West Coast Conference series with a 2-1 win over the San Francisco Dons on a wet Thursday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field. Kraus, a senior, picks up his 25th career win, which matches the most career wins by a pitcher in UP program history.
Former Portland pitcher Wes Smith (1978-81) also compiled 25 career wins.
The Pilots snap a six-game losing skid to the Dons, improving to 17-7 overall and to 4-3 in the WCC. The Dons drop to 14-18 and to 1-3 in the conference.

Re: Play Ball!!!!
I think I remember seeing on the official site that the Pilot staff led the nation in ERA. Let's see, add another 9.0 innings and 0 earned runs, and that probably stays true. Tremendous performance so far this season for a program that has been down for too long. Let's all try to make it out for a game to show our support.

A Timbers' win. They have got to get out of that funk they are in, but this is a discussion for another forum.

Heating up: The West Coast Conference
Though most nonconference games are done for the year, besides the midweek editions, the WCC has now ascended to become the No. 4-ranked conference in the RPI, ahead of both the Big 12 and the Big West. San Diego, Gonzaga, Portland, Pepperdine, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount and Saint Mary's have all beaten Big Six conference powers. The big question is, will the NCAA selection committee take notice and hand out more than one or two perfunctory at-large bids?

Looks like a good day for baseball in Portland.
So of course the Pilots are on the road in Malibu, where the game with Pepperdine was rained out today.
