Post Season 2012

Four WCC women’s basketball teams in the post season this year:

NCAA:

WCC Tournament Champ BYU is a #10 seed and faces #7 seed DePaul in a home game for DePaul played in Rockville, IL on Saturday.

WCC regular season champ Gonzaga is a #11 seed, but stays home in Spokane to play a very good #6 Rutgers on Saturday.

WNIT: (there is no seeding in the WNIT)

San Diego stays at home to face Cal State Northridge on Friday. USD finished third in the WCC and knocked UP out of the WCC Tournament.

St. Mary’s is at home against UNLV on Thursday. SMC finished fourth in the WCC.

WCC Player of the Year: BYU Senior, 6'3" Kristen Riley:

St. Mary's advances in the WNIT to play Oregon State on Saturday night in Corvallis after knocking off the Lady Rebels from UNLV 71-63 on Thursday night.

The WCC women are still 100% in the postseason as San Diego held on after a tough second half to beat Cal State Northridge 60-58 tonight and will next face a very tough Pacific team in San Diego on Sunday. Pacific advanced after beating Arizona State in Stockton.

#11 Gonzaga rolls to victory over Hall of Fame Coach Vivian Stringer and her #6 Rutgers squad 86-73.

They'll probably next face #3 Miami on Monday in Spokane.

WCC Tournament Champion #10 BYU loses today to #7 De Paul in Chicago, 59-55.

St. Mary's bows to Oregon State 56-41, and is done!

San Diego is still alive in the WNIT after defeating Pacific 83-75. USD will next take on a very tough Texas Tech in a very tough place to play, Lubbock. Great folks and a great atmosphere in Lubbock, and with nothing else to do in Lubbock in March, they’ll pack the place.

A pretty incredible season for #11 seed Gonzaga (27-5) continues another week after they smacked-down #3 Miami U tonight in Spokane, 65-54.

The Lady Zags earned their third straight trip to the Sweet Sixteen and next take on the #2 seeded University of Kentucky in Kingston, RI on Sunday.

(UCONN is in the same bracket, and tonight beat Kansas State 72-26, YIKES!)

Wow, San Diego held Texas Tech to 16 first half points enroute to a 60-51 win over the Red Raiders in Lubbock.

Now in the Sweet 16 of the WNIT, USD will next battle Washington in Seattle for an Elite 8 berth on Sunday.

An overall wonderful regular season and post-season for Gonzaga, but now they're done, losing today to #2 seed Kentucky, 79-62.

......and San Diego keeps playing in the WNIT! The Toreros, using a stifling defense, earned their way into WNIT Final Four today beating University of Washington, 58-47 in Seattle.

The remaining pride of the WCC, USD next faces Oklahoma St. Wednesday in Stillwater.

Not much surprise in the Women's final eight. The top eight seeds all came through.

WCC basketball is done for the season. Playing in Stillwater, Oklahoma State used a very strong first half then held on to down the San Diego Toreros Wednesday night, 73-57.

Having the 3rd place team in the WCC make to the WNIT Final Four was quite an achievement. WCC Coach-of-the-Year Cindy Fisher and her squad represented the league well!

All top seeds entered the Final Four and only two remain now. Baylor v. Notre Dame. I will be rooting for the Irish of course, but I believe that Baylor will win. Who you got?
